Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Goodwill to Few Men (Betty Bowers)

Think Goodwill Industries does well by the poor?  Fact is, they do WAY BETTER for themselves, to the point where America's Best Christian, Betty Bowers, thinks they're ripping off the christian playbook a bit too well!  Have a look for yourself:…Continue

Let's not define ourselves or others by our worst behaviors

Started by Ruth Anthony-Gardner. Last reply by Dominique Lutz Apr 16. 6 Replies

My take on the recent melt down at Hang With Friends, of which I missed part, is that some of us were tripped up by a habit of thought. It's something we learn growing up, and use without realizing how much pain it can generate -  failing to…Continue

I reported the order-of-comments problem to Brother Richard right away, and he fixed it.

Glad to hear you’re giving up smoking Ian. Your Mum’s health problem is especially scary to me. I had a similar problem within a few months of graduating from college, when I was living alone without having made any friends yet in Philly. I nearly died, but at the time I was young and healthy so hospitalization worked. At her age, I shudder to imagine. What’s a jam sponge?

I’m elated that your surgery went well, Joan. Your description of coming home to fragrant storm-scrubbed air was so vivid. You should be a writer. I’m happy to be a tiny droplet in your cloud of supporters. I’d never thought of the old-fashioned nun uniforms as burquas, but point taken. Thanks for the photo of the chemo room. It really helps me to feel as if I’m with you in spirit.

Love the cats in the tree with bird-poop hats and the peace negotiators Steph. Ohh! Environmental Science. Great!

Will you share before and after pictures of your exterior renovations, Pat? Love the rhododendron butterfly picture. Is it my imagination or do all of the pictures display much smaller in this new format?

Thanks for the Blitzer video, Tony. I liked the way she flipped her head and sort of laughed when she said she was an atheist.

Today I visited the urologist. The nurse told me that the doctor was going to use a telescope to look at my bladder. I replied, "That isn't even possible. What telescope would fit into my urethra? How about using a cystoscope instead." I was laughing for five minutes, picturing her trying to fit various telescopes in there, and stopped after Hubble and Aricebo.

Joan, I'm glad to hear your good news, and hope you don't vomit too much.

That's all I have time for now, as I'm working in the garden most of each day now.

Just saying hi as well; glad to hear that things are going well, Joan, and that you're helping the woman who badly needs a support system!

Those are beautiful flowers Patricia. Early detection is best - I agree.
Flying Atheist - I'm taking an Environmental Science class this summer. It's something I'm very interested in.

Steph, in summer school are you going to be the student or the teacher?  What classes will you be involved with?

The Breast Cancer Site

I'm all hooked up, first drip will take 1 1/2 hours. Five hours till finished. I feel fine, not a bit of pain; staff at Cancer Care Northwest have so many skills, patients getting chemo all have positive attitudes, there are twelve  of us getting chemo with no  vacant chemo-recliner.  My little support team spreads their good cheer wherever they are. There are many volunteers that tend to our every needs, making sure patients have blankets, nuts and beverages.

Laura and Laura sit with me, they provide great conversation for me and a woman next to me who doesn't have a good support system and needs one very badly. I think we have a new team member.

Melinda that's so nice of your mom to support your daughter in her decision to focus on her classes. Did she already start summer school?
Joan we are here to support you and you are in our thoughts.
Happy hump day to you too Melinda!

With that last blast to you on Atheist Nexus, I go to chemo therapy and will be there about five hours as they drain a little bit of poison at a time into my body. I welcome it with gratitude and appreciation for the researchers who look for the best treatment and diet, the doctors and technicians who administer it, my family who  will hold my hand as I puke into whatever receptacle I can find and my support system that exists here at Atheist Nexus. Do not pray for me, get your exams regularly, and go to the best doctors you can find. Do not rely on voodoo herbalists who make claims that they cannot support with research. For those who do the research properly, separate those out from the witch doctors and think for yourself!
