Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The myth of religions

The creation myth of civilizations instructs men to dominate, to conquer, to go forth and multiply. No reasonable person would pay attention to such a god. No hunter-gatherer receives such a senseless message from wise elders. However, that idea…Continue

Apparently, Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, has been slumming.  That is to say, she's been talking to Mike Pence [gasp!].  It would seem as though Mike has offered some of his not-so-personal tricks of the trade on how to be a 21st century…Continue

OOHH Oh! I forgot that I deleted the faith article because the video started half way through the film and I didn't want that. So, I deleted it, intending to repair it and send if off. However, Carl's article on footbinding popped up and I forgot about my faith article. Here it is.

Carl, the cuttle fish video is a great one that hold attention, not only because of cuttle, but also that great narrator.

Felaine, that is a remarkable story of breaking the barriers in ice skating in the U.S. That was a very few years ago. It is beyond my belief that racial barriers are coming back in some communities.

Oh? Some others of you are not receiving comments either? I will post my comment again and see if it gets through.

OK, Felaine, let's designate some dates of celebrations worthy of our attention. I think I have these dates correct. Feel free to correct my mistakes, add and/or subtract whatever you feel is worthy of note.

1980 - The World Health Organization (WHO) certified that smallpox had been eradicated from the planet in 1980.

03-26-1953 - Polio vaccine discovered.

04-14-2003 - Human Genome Project Completed

07-04-1997 - Mars Pathfinder spacecraft landed.

07-20-1969 - 1st moon landing.

08-20-1977 - Voyager 2 launched.

09-02-1945 - Japan's surrender in 1945.

Mindy - I've worn glasses since I was 7 years old...ie: before you were born!  Tee-hee.  I'm far-sighted, and have astigmatism, but not so badly that I needed glasses to dance or skate.

Speaking of skating...I just found a YouTube video honoring Mabel Fairbanks, and those who have followed her.

Agreed, Felaine. There are happy milestones to be celebrated. The bad ones should be warnings.

Carl, that's great! If only science was taught like that in school.

Sk8eycat, my niece who was a biology major in college found it and passed it along.  I love how it's full of both humor and facts.  That's a great way to teach science.

I have an e-mail notice that Joan posted something in here about "faith," but I can't find it.  Has it been moved, or deleted?

Comment by sk8eycat on September 11, 2014 at 9:55pm

Oh, Carl, that's SO cleverly written and narrated.  How did you find it?
