Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The Playboy Interview: Richard Dawkins

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Chris Feb 19. 14 Replies

I suppose it was the news that Playboy magazine was returning nudes to its pages after a year's hiatus that sufficiently perked my curiosity to check them out again.  I hadn't looked at Playboy since perhaps 2008, when I began to recognize that I…Continue

Such Lyrics!

Hello Friends,I was ruminating a bit today on my sixty-some years existence. My mind went back to teenage years when I first figured out religion is not only obnoxiously loud, but also nothing I wanted anything to do with. Truly. I knew by age 15…Continue

degrading love — part two (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Feb 11. 1 Reply

TheraminTrees set up religion with his left in Part One of his treatise on how religion demeans and degrades the value of love.  Here in Part Two, he brings in a devastating, "Mike Tyson" right, which negates and invalidates any claim that either…Continue

It has been 6 month now since I signed up for Atheist Nexus membership. The past year has been sort of a bi-polar wave of emotions for me. I hope I wasn't offensive to the folks on here and I think I have been but I don't know to who. My desire…Continue

Hey, Steph.  Were you recently in Chicago waiting for the train?

I wonder how Pumpkins and Fred would do with a wind up mouse, or a ball of yarn? Would they fight? or participate? Or perhaps a group of boxes, big and small?

I don't know why, but "Fred" is a good cat name...IMO, anyway.  We had a (male) Fred when I was in my 20s...he was red, so he was "Red Fred."

Heard some hisses, and Pumpkin came out to complain about the interloper.  Fred is half-hiding in a cardboard carton that's lying on its side by the window wall.

Maybe I should put her personal litter box out there...

Joan, there's also Bob, the Rain God...only sends rain when you don't need it or want it.  Oh, about 20 years ago the bishop or archbishop of San Francisco led a special service to pray for rain (there was a terrible drought) and a couple of days later it SNOWED in SF!  First time in 50 or 75 years.

Everybody laughed.

sk8eycat, it has been months since I did any housework and a few cousins and friends drop by from time to time and I tell them the snifter of dust on my bookshelves is star dust, and I don't want to disturb it, it is too precious. They report that dust mites like my snifter and I do not let that deter me.

I look forward to your stories of your new addition to your household. Fred is a good name.

A.C. Grayling states that if someone wants to pray for you, say you will do the honors and then say, "Thank Fred for all these gifts bestowed upon me and my family!"

I don't know why Fred, it just doesn't sound like "god" I guess.

Well, if it weren't too late to change Pumpkin's name, I'd call him "Ginger"...because he IS a "ginger cat," and then I'd have "Fred & Ginger."

They are both out in the den right now, staring at each other.  Haven't heard any growls or hisses.  Yet.

OMNerves, it was SO good to see and really talk with John and Bjo again!  I met them a long time ago through "Trek" fandom...before any of the movies or spin-offs were even in the works.  They are a bit older than I am, and were involved in SF fandom long before "Trek;"

I think they actually met at a LASFS (Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society) meeting in the days when the professional writers were still involved with fan clubs and stuff.  I could listen to them talk about "the old days" forever!  (Bjo wrote the original Star Trek Concordance when all "Trek" was was reruns, and the short-lived animated series.)

I'm just  embarrassed that our house is such a blooming mess, and I haven't the time or the energy to do very much about it before they get here. Old (1967) ankle problems have kept me from doing much without a walker for the last couple of weeks, and I can see dust, and papers, and books piling up all over the place.  Oh, well....I TOLD Bjo the house was a dump...literally.  I don't think the cat will mind.  BTW the cat is a female...named "Fred."  I have to find out why.
MUST get dressed; they'll be here in an hour.

That's great news, sk8eycat.  How fun!  What a lucky cat.  Looking forward to your stories as you discover a new personality living in your house.

Well, folks, it looks like we are going to be a 2-cat family again.  A long-time friend and her husband backed themselves into a corner by signing their home over to a daughter & son-in-law for financial reasons, and to avoid probate, and the "kids moved in and decided that they wanted a couple of dogs.  The dogs are trying to kill the cat (and wrecking the house), and all the no-kill shelters are full.  I could NOT let this couple take their Only Cat to a city "shelter," so Pumpkin is getting a house-mate.

And I need to pick up a few hairballs before they come over.

I'll keep y'all posted.
