Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

The Playboy Interview: Richard Dawkins

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Chris yesterday. 14 Replies

I suppose it was the news that Playboy magazine was returning nudes to its pages after a year's hiatus that sufficiently perked my curiosity to check them out again.  I hadn't looked at Playboy since perhaps 2008, when I began to recognize that I…Continue

Hello Friends,I was ruminating a bit today on my sixty-some years existence. My mind went back to teenage years when I first figured out religion is not only obnoxiously loud, but also nothing I wanted anything to do with. Truly. I knew by age 15…Continue

degrading love — part two (TheraminTrees)

Started by Loren Miller. Last reply by Joan Denoo Feb 11. 1 Reply

TheraminTrees set up religion with his left in Part One of his treatise on how religion demeans and degrades the value of love.  Here in Part Two, he brings in a devastating, "Mike Tyson" right, which negates and invalidates any claim that either…Continue

Men who challenge men to stop violence

Many men join in the effort to reduce violence against women and children and other men. He speaks of the need to place responsibility on men instead of focusing on women to stop violence. He offers a breath of fresh air, as do so many of the men on…Continue

Hi, Chris.  Glad you liked the Chicago videos.  You mentioned Koyaanisqatsi.  He directed the film Life Out of Balance.  I saw it a few years ago.  Stunning cinematography.  And the film soundtrack is by Phillip Glass.  I've always admired his music ever since I saw him perform live when I was in college mid-80's.  What a grey, gloomy day you've had.  Was that photo taken from your window?

Ruth, I don't blame you for not wanting to watch Donny and Marie. LOL  It was posted 99% as a joke and 1% for the nostalgia factor.  That "green light building" in the video isn't a building.  It's actually a hi-tech fountain/art display that illuminates in many colors and several images.  Here's an interesting video on how it works:

Welcome back, Ian.  Sounds like you had what I call the perfect holiday.....where you get to explore and learn.  Those are the most rewarding excursions that you always remember.

Hey, Steph.  Hello and thanks for popping in.  You seem to be eternally busy.  When do you sleep?

Mindy, thanks for all the cute pics.  :)  Are those your two cats on top of the sofa?  They are cute.

Great pic, Ruth. Stealing it.

That's what I think too. Do things while you can. There's an Irish toast that says something like "enjoy life while you can because you're a long time dead". BTW, the oldest member of the group I was travelling with was 87! She didn't walk the gorge (only one other of the bunch did) but kept up with the rest in every other activity, including drinking and smoking!

Patricia, the wife fed his hamster of course. Probably grumbling under her breath too.

Thanks everyone for the entertaining LOLcats and gifs.

Sorry, Flying Atheist, couldn't bring myself to listen to the Osmonds. That green light building in Chicago is interesting, as well as the fountains and sculptures. How can it be so clean-looking? Where's the air pollution?

I didn't know that story about the cat hotel, sk8eycat.

Hope you enjoy the new restaurants, booklover.

Ian, thanks for the picture of you in Crete. You give me travel envy, but that's partly youth envy. I couldn't walk a 10 mile gorge any more. I'm glad you can and you get out there. Carpe Diem!

That's a dangerous kitty!

Back again from my 2nd tour to Crete. Won't even try to catch up.

Walked Samaria gorge (16km/10 m) saw Knossos and the Museum of Archeology in Iraklio plus a few other sites I didn't see the first time round. Have put on a few pounds but am now back to a diet that isn't 50% fat.

Hope you're all well.

I love those videos, Carl! Very beautiful, and there's something from Koyaanisqatsi in it. Here it's Saturday 8 AM, rainy and very quiet:

Here are two really cool time lapse videos of Chicago.  I do admit, I love the hustle, bustle and beauty of a large city.

Cityscape Chicago from Eric Hines on Vimeo.

I hope that woman tossing kibble to a roomful of cats is just somebody's idea of a joke, and not a real hoarder.  The room looks clean, and the cats look healthy, but just thinking about hoarders makes me shudder.

It was two hoarders that ruined the elegant Cat Hotel; the city had to get a haz-mat team in there to clean it up, and the place still smells after being vacant for 2 years.

Breaks my heart because we worked so hard for more than 10 years to keep it clean, and attractive enough to appeal to people like Jay Leno, Stephanie Edwards, and Loretta Swit....and other members of Actors & Others for Animals.  (Word of mouth advertising is the best kind.)

Damn.  Damn.  Damn.  Damn.

sorry  8>(

I think I have the job; it all depends on when or whether Sharon's surgery is scheduled. I hate to say this, but I think she needs some serious liposuction or something first, or the new hip joint won't help her much.  Oh, hell...what do I know?

In the meantime, this my wish for all of us RIGHT NOW!
