Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Speak English? YOU FIRST! (Betty Bowers)

Honestly, the title to this piece is badly under-representative of the content.  To be far more accurate, what we have here is Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, going on a rant.  Before you say it ... Say WHAAAA?  Betty Bowers ranting? …Continue

10 Things About Patriotism (Betty Bowers)

It seems as though lately, Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, is evolving into America's Best Patriot.  She has recently been taking some fairly well-aimed shots at a certain Orange Nightmare and his sycophantic hangers-on, regarding the…Continue

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet.  Mrs. Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian, has seen what is going on with the current occupant of the Oval Office, and my impression is that she is not at all happy with it.  True to her citizenship,…Continue

Okayyyy...this is from "Steam Bath" produced by Hollywood Television Theatre, at KCET, my alma mater.  (Or one of them.)

They ran this every night for a week, and I watched each broadcast.  (Wasn't Bill Bixby handsome?)

An amusing bit, excepting for the tinge of homophobia and nudity taboo.

As you realize, Napoleon, I have problems with you and sometimes you make no sense to me at all. When you do ring my bells, they are as clear as crystal and make good sense. Kind of like wake-up call to some truth.

Sk8eycat, a couple of weeks ago when I mentioned about attending a Johnny Carson taping back in 1988......Pete Fountain was the musical guest for that show.

I had the honor of seeing Woody Herman and his Big Band three times in my life.  Twice in high school in a concert setting.  The third and final time I was probably just 21 and able to legally get into bars/clubs.  Woody was performing at Rick's Cafe Americain here in Chicago.  A classic jazz club.  A fairly small room.  Small round tables tightly arranged together and each with a candle.  I was seated right up front, an arms length away from the piano.  And before me, just several feet away, was one row each of saxophones, trombones and trumpets.  A wall of intense, electrifying music fronted by Woody Herman and his clarinet.  It's one of those unforgettable and sublime musical memories.

When I used to work in downtown Chicago, my office was just three blocks from The Jazz Showcase, another infamous jazz club.  Occasionally by boss and I would go have dinner after work and then head to the jazz club.  I recall seeing both Tal Farlow and Ray Brown perform there.

Oh, la!  It seems like 100 years since I've been to a jazz club (Shelly's Manne- Hole in Hollywood)A friend worked there as a maitre d' and he would slip me in...

We also used to hit a lot of the better clubs in the French Quarter when we played New Orleans...different kind of jazz, but fun.  Double fun to actually meet, and shake hands with the likes of Al Hirt and Pete Fountain. (Sometimes the musicians who toured with us would sit in with the "big names" for a few sets.  So cool!)

Them wuz the dayz.

No argument, Carl, though I'd likely opt for a snifter of a good single-malt.  It's one for the desert island, for sure.

Ah, yes, Loren.  A great choice of music.  I have this album.  It's a classic.  Pair this with a glass of wine and it will take you to wonderful places.

In anticipation of Friday and the weekend, here's something to ease down with.  I can truthfully say that this has been a favorite of mine for crowding half a century.

Ladies and gentlemen: Messrs. Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto - Corcovado.
