Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

Bible Belt Atheist (New York Times)

The following showed up in my YouTube feed this morning, and I decided to have a look.  Turns out, the New York Times has given us a reasonably even-handed look at a good friend of ours, being one Jerry DeWitt, former bible-thumper and now a pretty…Continue

How would you respond?

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

The Fake Christian Busybody Show (Andrew Bradley)

how dogma pollutes discourse (qualiasoup & theramintrees)

Happy Punxsutawney Phil day y'all.

Fun fact:  During Prohibition, Punxsutawney Phil threatened that, if he was not allowed to drink, there would be 60 weeks of winter.

Felaine, did Lyle say his name much?

Yes, there is help for people who cannot stay at home. We went through it with Aunt when her Alzheimer's became worse. First a report about the disabilities, then a report about what's needed, after that you can put the patient on a waitinglist for a care home. Every person who needs to be in a care home can be admitted, but it's not free of course. The health care organizations look at the patient's income (together with the government) and decide on a reasonable share the patient has to pay. It is balanced so that the patient has got health insurance, all the housing and care he/she needs and some money for clothes and small outings. I'm very glad that this part of the health care still works, even if the system is cut into all the time.

Mindy, I'm glad your heart monitor results show that all is well.

{{{ reassuring hug }}}

Joan, thank you for the kind words.  As always, you are an inspiration.  In fact, everyone here is an inspiration.  I marvel at the wide range of topics discussed here.  It's all these stories. our highs and our lows, that trigger the necessary support from others that we need from time to time.  What a great group of people!

And now on to the mundane.......I did my federal tax return earlier this evening.

Oh, Sk8eycat.  I love the cat walk video!  I got quite a good laugh from it.

Comment by sk8eycat on February 2, 2014 at 12:20am

Joan, I posted this in the Kitty Group:

I think he's attacking his reflection in that shiny, tall kitchen waste basket thingie.

One of our (orange tiger) cats did that "walk" many years ago, when I was holding a tiny toy mouse...one made of rabbit fur....above his head.  I never have a camera handy when things like that happen.

His name was Lyle;  I called him that so he could say his own name.

sk8eycat, a great kitty video! I've never seen a cat do THAT!

Chris, I do hope your b-i-l's convalescent home stay helps him and relieves you. What is the procedure when a person is no longer able to live alone or at his/her home? Are there facilities that he can go into? Does the government pay those bills? Not to ask about your personal situation, but as a societal issue when a person doesn't have money resources.

When I visited a home in Hamburg, Germany, it was nationally owned and financed, I think. At least that is what I understood them to mean. It included a children's home as well. I enjoyed my visit there and found the aged and young fit well together with proper planning and policies and age-appropriate programs.

Thanks, Spud.  Now I'm twitching a bit, too.  Went online to find out how long this is going to go on..."7 - 21 Days"  is what they said.  GACK!  I have a cat-sitting job starting the 11th.....

Sorry Elaine.

Oh, good, Mindy!  (About the heart monitor results)

Elaine is still having explosions.  :>(  I hate it when that happens.

So...this is the cutest kitty video I've seen in a while.  I posted it in Ailurophiles, but I thought I'd post it here too, and then go back to bed.

This kiity is adorable, but the really FUNNY part is in the last quarter of the video:
