Spud, we have been following th progression of the southern Idaho fires. It just seems the fires keep on burning. Hope you get out of the smoke soon.

Grinning Cat, I had been in the military health care for the twenty years I was married to an army man and had excellent care. For the past twenty years I have been under a private insurance plan and, frankly, I may have more personal service and nice bedside manners, but the cost wipes out any hope of having discretionary funds for household repairs and new clothing is out of the question.
With all that money going to insurance companies and my doctors and nurses, and medical care, I do not spend on other things, i.e. cars, haircuts, dinners out, rest and relaxation, etc.

Just think of all the merchants that do not have my business because my income is tied up in paying for my insurance (which really means money to the middle man/woman).

Relevant to U.S. politics as well as health:

As Republicans in congress warn us of the evils of government-run health care, most of them are covered by taxpayer-funded government-run health care. You literally pay for their health care while they tell you that paying for your neighbors health care through a public option or single-payer system is socialism. They are 100% correct, it is socialism. They're just not telling you that they like their socialist health care, they just don't think you should have it. They are afraid you might like it better than the private insurance you have now that funds their campaigns and gives them money to push what is best for them and not for you. Members of congress are free to opt out of their evil government health care, but most of them don't because deep down, they like socialism too.

(from "We the People: 75 Ways Socialism has Improved, Saved, and Shaped America". Bolding is mine.)

Good for you, Spud! And I had the strange urge to "pound flesh", so I beat on my punching bag. Such good therapy--and exercise!

I've finished all the hard work in my garden, so I took all the junk off my recumbent tricycle, pumped the tires up, and will start riding it again for exercise.  I didn't ride it today because there is still smoke here from the large fires in Idaho.  They've got them mostly contained, so it should be clear in a day or two.

What the heck are they?

These are chewable, and they do contain vitamins....

Sign: 'Whole Foods Market Chewable Multi-Vitamins' looks like it's referring to the boxes of fresh raspberries in front of it

I didn't see that 60 minutes episode, but I've always thought extreme exercise will hurt the bod more than help, and cause problems when they become seniors.  I think that includes training for the Olympics.

Did you see the 60 Minutes episode about extreme training? (I forget the actual name.) These health nuts nearly kill themselves with their power exercises, competing for the fittest of them all. I'm into keeping in shape, but this is ridiculous. I think I'll stick with my usual methods.

Dr. Oz responded to his critics Apr. 23 on his show. I didn't watch it, however, because I can hardly stand the man. Or/and I should say, I can hardly UNDERstand the man. He speaks so fast.
