A man held a 19 year old arthritic dog afloat in Lake Superior so that it could sleep without pain. It had been an abused pup when he adopted it and he credits it for having prevented him from committing suicide. A picture of the man holding the dog afloat went viral on Facebook. There were nearly 300,000 likes and 32,000 comments. A multitude of mostly anonymous donors sent money and gifts. One woman paid for a series of three state of the art laser treatments for arthritis for the dog that are expected to significantly alleviate its pain. The man who suffers from depression would not have been able to pay for the treatments himself.
I don't have any pets but I think I know how you feel. I once had a dog that died in my hands and there is no way to describe how deep the loss was that I felt.
Much as I love my cats, there may be no real PAL like a dog, and what could be more indicative of the reflexive nature of that relationship than John Unger, treading water with Schoep?
Me 'at's off to 'im!
