Hoping to become a psychiatrist or neurologist, when I finished my training.

Just wondering if there are other psychiatrists out there.

FROM: You Don’t Know Jack on HBO;
“When a patient in agony dies;
A doctor’s calling implies;
That he do what is best,
At the patient’s request,
For a rapid and painless demise“.

JeanMarie...I went to the post and left my humble and subjective opinion and seconded everything you did it much better than I could have, but hell, are RIGHT! You have the facts, you presented your case logically and with elegance and eloquence.
I'm pretty much a "get to the point stop beating around those bushes cut um down" kind of grouchy old nurse. Can't wait to see if anyone responds. TeeHee....check it out.

I worked for years with the Transplant Network for many years, caring for the patients whose organs they 'harvested' as well as the transplanted patients. There are VERY STRICT guidelines as to who we can use as an organ donor. We have had parents who were very disappointed when their child did not fit the criteria and died without being able to donate the child's organs to help others. Those patients used for organ transplants are mostly people who have been involved in an accident causing traumatic brain injury. The patient has to be declared brain dead after specific tests done 24 hours apart, without sedatives to dampen brain activity. If there is ANY activity, we are NOT able to use the patient as a donor, even though it is not at a level to make survival possible. When an organ is transplanted into someone else-it is the organ, NOT the 'personality' or the likes and dislikes of the patient, this is purely a psychological 'survivor guilt' effect and has NO scientific basis.

I'm not in the medical field, but I see religion's most threatening intrusions happening there.

i get so tired of hearing stories like this. darn those self-righteous christians...they need to keep their religion in the privacy of their homes, churches, and if they want to force it on their communities...then let them live in a commune >:( i know, extreme, but come on, already.
