Hello all, Member 55 so far, glad to find a few atheists in Michigan! (I know others but they don't mess with computers) I'm in the Grand Traverse area and it's great to see a few of us up here!

Hi, I'm the new 50th member. Only 50 members? I hope this is a new group and that there will be a lot more members. Anyway, we winter in the Detroit area and spend the spring, summer, fall in the U.P. where I was born and raised. It's hard to find an atheist up there, I hope I'm wrong. We'll see if there any in this group. Give me a shout.

I have just started a Google group for atheists in AA. (Literally just started--I'm the only member so far.) If you are in AA please check out the group and join me, then tell your friends.
I am a writer, so naturally I started a website to complement the group.
Please feel free to start a topic, or email me if you want to add to the website. Good writers are welcome to add to it.

I did attend the meeting by the Grand Traverse Humanist last night. There were a couple of speakers. One talking about the Great Lakes and how they are threatened by invassive species. It was all interesting. The speakers took up most of the meeting time leaving little time for discussion or mingling with the other members. I went to the meeting for the opportunity to interact with like-minded people. I left not meeting anyone. The person who runs this group did say that earlier on in their meetings, they did break up in smaller groups for discussion. I would have preferred the time to do this and meet others. Though I think it is great they have speakers each month. The speakers need to be limited on their time to allow more discussion. I start my summer hours soon. I will not be able to attend any more meetings unless they switch days.

Just a reminder for anyone who is interested.
The Grand Traverse Humanist meet the second Monday of each month (April 13) at the Traverse Area District Library at 6:45 pm. This will be my first time there. I will let you know how things go.

Hi Everyone. I am new here. Check out the newspaper, "Northern Express". There is an article on page 12 titled, "Religion? No Thanks". It is about the first Humanist group forming in Northern Michigan. I am about to read the article. I will let you know what I think.

Hello everybody!

My name is Cécile Cabanac. I’m a french journalist and I work for M6 channel which is one of the most important channel in France.
I would like to make a report about atheism in the States.
In France, last few years, we have heard about George Bush’s links with religion. We’ve been thinking sometimes that all american people were very religious, wich is not true for sure!
French people have discovered last days that atheism exists in the United States and it’s been recognized by President Obama himself.
That’s why I would like to make a report to inlight what atheism means in America, and how it’s been hard sometimes for atheist to say their thoughts.
« atheism coming-out » still seems to be difficult to make.
I would like to know if you can help me to contact people who have made their coming out last few years and who have suffer for it. I tkink it would be interesting to show that consequences can be very important in family or work. I need to follow three people with different routes.
For example: One who has lost his job, one who has broken his links with family about his disbelief, and one who is accepted by his family but still misunderstood.
The questions I’d like to answer in this report are those :
What means atheism to you?
Is there mistrust about atheists in the States and why ?
What can be consequences about atheism coming out ? Do Atheist people loose their job when they say they don’t trust in god ?
Are they some politicians who represant you ?
Do you think that president Barack Obama will change image of atheism in your country ?
Do you think in the future State and religion will be separated ?

In a positive way, I would like to show that atheist people form a big community. That’s why I would like to film the American Atheist Convention on April the 9th.
This report will be filmed on the very beginning of April to finish by the convention in Atlanta.
Now, You know everything! if someone is interested in that project, please contact me now!
