I should also let you know, if you're in the Metro Detroit area, that Detroit Atheists Meetup (DAM) keeps a calendar of local events which might interest you. Plans for a 12/25 gathering are in the making. Check it out!

Last April I started a Google group for atheists in AA. I did not work with it or advertize it after getting involved in some other things I could not get out of. But the group is http://groups.google.com/group/atheist-aa and I invite any and all agnostics/atheists in AA to join.

habman, yes, i agree with what you've said. you happened to have said it better than me :D.......and you're right too, i don't hate xians, but because it's difficult, if not sometimes impossible, to talk to them rationally, i just assume not speak with them; at least where religion is concerned.....i agree with eric, too, that having a group where you can relate to others is needed. i don't feel he was excluding anyone, but rather looking for specific people with whom he is able to share. just as i may seek out other atheist mothers, philosophers etc....

amelia_e, I think you understand where I am coming from. You can't discount a group then expect that group to feel comfortable with you. Doesn't happen.

We should be looking for unity with others. There are right and wrong ways to go about achieving common goals.

I am an atheist, however I isn't my wish for religion to disappear, just that is plays no part in my life.

People should be free to believe as they wish without interference from others that believe differently.

If I voice my opinion, it is just that my opinion where we run into problems is when people believe that their opinions should carry the force of law.

It is that simple.

eric, RE:
"' I was at the same sex wedding of my sister in law a few years ago where there was a group of lesbians saying the most ignorant, vicious things about straight people and then wondering why they are not accepted in society."'
Just like atheists "dissing" xians. all thoughts are based on assumptions, instead of getting to know them (group).
