Wow! I got chills listening to it (Whitacre). Thanks for sharing, Loren. And thanks to Chris for the lyrics.
Didn't Johnny Cash sing something with similar the same lyrics?
"I hurt myself today"
I hurt myself today To see if I still feel I focus on the pain The only thing that's real The needle tears a hole The old familiar sting Try to kill it all away But I remember everything ---------------------------------------------- What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know Goes away in the end You could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt ---------------------------------------------- I wear this crown of thorns Upon my liar's chair Full of broken thoughts I cannot repair Beneath the stain of time The feelings disappear You are someone else I am still right here ---------------------------------------------- What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know Goes away in the end You could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt
.
I wasn't able to understand the lyrics either so also looked them up on the YouTube link someone posted.
My G/D hearing is terrible.
The tonals remind me of Gregorian Chants.
Eric Whitacre's Singers move in and out of close harmony and disharmony so easily and fluidly revealing excellent skills of the singers. I could not follow the words and so looked up the lyrics. The sounds and the music didn't match up for me. So, I just laid back and listened to the sounds. Very nice.
I have loved the work of Eric Whitacre since I first heard his music, some 15 years ago. Recently it occurred to me that I hadn't heard anything new from him in a while when, coincidentally, I stumbled onto the following ... and very shortly thereafter found my jaw loitering around the carpet:
The lyric is astonishing, all by itself. Combined with Eric's dulcet dissonances, it damned near becomes a force of nature. Do yourself a favor: when you do press PLAY, make sure you have seven minutes and eight seconds to do nothing but LISTEN.
A geologist told me that parts of Oregon and Washington migrated from Asia based on fossil records found in the area.
Ynka Huasy. Music from the Andes.
Sorry I meant to write Harlen/Harley Bretz theory about the Missolua floods.
The links above cover what I think you are writing about Joan.
