It was mid-1940s, our Daddies had been gone for two years and no known return. Our mothers worked at Kaiser Trentwood in Spokane. Our grandparents sat by the radio listening to war news with some interludes of Christmas music. With our Moms returning to Tekoa to celebrate the holidays with us, they brought their forlorn recordings of:

Bing Crosby - White Christmas 1943

Bing Crosby - I'll be home for Chrismas 1943

If there may be said to be a genuine modern-day Christmas classic, here it is.  I first heard Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops play Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" well over 60 years ago, and in my mind, there is no substitute for Fiedler's touch to this wonderful standard.

I wonder if it is possible to create such fine music that celebrates nature or the interplay of living things?

I, too, have listen to and sung parts of Messiah my whole life. My fave is "For Unto Us a Child is Born".

I have probably been listening to Handel's Messiah since I was a kid. Even since that time, my favorite part of it remains the first solo: "Comfort Ye:"

Hahahaha......

My favourite versions of Love Potion #9, & A Taste of Honey, are T. Brass
