What is new atheism?

New Atheism is the name given to the ideas promoted by a collection of 21st-century atheist writers who have advocated the view that "religion should not simply be tolerated but should be countered, criticized, and exposed by rational argument wherever its influence arises."

The term is commonly associated with individuals such as Richard DawkinsDaniel DennettSam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens(together called "the Four Horsemen of New Atheism" in a 2007 debate they held on their criticisms of religion, a name that has stuck) and Victor J. Stenger. Several best-selling books by these authors, published between 2004 and 2007, form the basis for much of the discussion of New Atheism.

What a horror show. In our day and age we have this going on; a disgrace for humanity.

Brings to mind that affair last month where they arrested that kid in Teheran for writing insults to the Supreme Leader on the Internet.  The Thought Police came to his apartment and carted him off to high security prison.  They beat him up bad.  Right out of 1984.

Sadly, Atheistnexus is one of the first places they’d monitor.  Word should get around to be careful for anyone that’s vulnerable.  Maybe, bring it up in the chat rooms.

Er, I didn't intend to hijack the thread with woggishness. And some of those "wogs" are fellow infidels ...

Interestingly, "wog" was also the term used by Robert Heinlein in his novel, The Number of the Beast, to refer to the alien "vermin" which were after John, DeeTee, Jacob and Hilda, practically from the first chapter.  The source of the word is somewhat reinforced by the "fact" in the novel that Mars of that universe was settled by the British, and they referred to the Martian variant of the "vermin" as "wogs."

Ibrahim, I agree, and I think I will give all the ayatollahs and mullahs a peace of my mind.  ;-)

@ J. Martin:

"Wog" is of uncertain etymology. It might be a shortening of "golliwog" or an acronym for "Westernized" (or "Worthy", "Wily", etc.) Oriental Gentleman.

"Bon Mot". Isn't that a U.S. brand of Turkish taffy?

The Fanta brand was created in order to keep going Coca-Cola's interests throughout the Reich. In wartime, Germany had a problem importing anything. Fanta was concocted by Coke's executives there and their bottling plants and associated industries kept on going.

If Islam is the religion of piece then health is a disease.

Coca Cola distributed Fanta here. It was in various flavors and that was why they took it on.

Why not Bon Mot?
