See, I consider New Brunswick central. However, I have friends in N. Jersey that consider NB South. Ahh, so confusing! lol.

Unsurprisingly, this topic of conversation comes up frequently among my friends and I.

Should I ever decide to step foot on a beach I will make sure that I never bring my lunch in a shoebox! (People really did that? Strange)

Yeah, Manasquan is a few minutes from me. It's definitely central. I actually think Manasquan was my high school's rival, though I may be wrong since I never payed much attention.

Ahh, so Shoobees are from Philly, huh? Bennys are from the NYC area--Bayonne, Elizabeth, Newark, New York. I have heard that Shoobees used to bring lunch in shoe boxes, though. Interesting.

Rutgers as central or north? Hmm. I should check with my wife, who I see as an expert on all matters concerning north versus central Jersey. (She grew up in Manasquan, which I think would qualify as dead center.)

If I remember right, shoobee may come from their supposed habit of bringing their lunch in shoe boxes, but I'm not sure.

Pariahjane, I don't think you'd qualify as a shoobee since you aren't from Philly, so you can rest easy!

You're near Rutgers, New Brunswick? I consider that North Jersey.

Haha, ok, good to know. Also, try not to bring everything you own to the beach. That's a dead giveaway.
Really, though, come visit...we'll gladly take your money. =P

Ahh, I see now. I don't make it down the shore very often, obviously. lol. But if I do then I'll make sure to remove my shoes before I go on the beach. :)

Shoobees, like Bennys, are the tourists who invade the Jersey Shore every year. As I understand it (and I may be wrong, so correct me if I am, Mike) they're called Shoobees because they wear their shoes on the beach. Or that's how it started.

Central Jersey does exist because that's where I live, lol. I'm near Rutgers U.

What the hell is a shoobee? :)

Awesome. They're Bennys by me, but I've heard Shoobee before. I'm in northeastern Ocean County, and I've lived by the beach my entire life. My area is considered the Central Jersey Shore. (I swear central Jersey exists! My north Jersey friends tell me I'm in South Jersey, and my South Jersey ones say I'm in North Jersey. Quite amusing, actually.)

Yes! Someone who knows what a Benny or a Shoobee is. I live about 15 min. from the AC beaches, and have lived all along the shore.
