Hi!!! Originally from Syracuse, currently in NC but desperately want to move to Ithaca. Hope you all don't mind that I joined and am not living in NY. It is my home and I miss it.

I'm sorry I didn't see your reply for several days. Hope the wine guzzling was good.

The pulchritude of Brooklynite, like many things, depends on how much you pay for it. My bit of Brooklynite? Meh. It ain't Ithaca.

New York is a big place - you should visit it sometime! Heaven? Almost. Big Rock Candy Mountain? Nah - that's Mt. Beacon - I have seen some of the residents. Although since I am now no longer oncall, I CAN at least have a drink!

As for Olympus - that is a bit further North still - and you can get a bumper sticker that says "My car climbed Mt. Washington" if you go there. You DO know what a "bumper" is I presume? They are usually found on vehicles that are, more than likely, known to you as the "Taxi". Generally the sticker is placed on the hind-quarters of such a device.

Occasionally though, I descend into the Pits of the City - in fact, I will be descending this Monday for a Wine tasting somewhere along this thing called "Third Street" I think. Sounds like nearly halfway through the seven circles or something. Is it safe to approach the region with anything less than full Nomex?

As I descend from the heights to below that Event Horizon that is 164th street, I shall endeavour to manifest in a Human form recognisable to the inhabitants of the Nether Regions so that I may walk among them and observe unnoticed. In such a form I will then be able to more completely comprehend this "NY Reality" of which you speak. Or not, in the case of several hours at a wine tasting.

Perhaps I can dislodge some of thie "Brooklynite" and bring it home for my rock garden - currently replete with Leavirite. Is it a pretty rock at all? Somehow, I imagine it looking more like an aggregate.

Being a Brooklynite, I feel compelled to point out that if this mythical "Wallkill/Newburgh" you speak of is above 164th St., then it might as well be Olympus or Heaven or Big Rock Candy Mountain.
As you should know, we City Dwellers are the arbiters of NY Reality. So let's hear no more blasphemy about an unproveable "upstate".

Greetings all from the Wallkill/Newburgh area. Anyone here attend the Science Cafe (Cafe Scientifique) events in Newburgh?
