In The Allure of Trump’s Narcissism, Elizabeth Lunbeck pries open the brain-secret-sauce of our malignant narcissist POTUS.

Trump’s apparent authenticity — his lack of the usual filters ... invites his followers’ identification with him as sharer of secrets and speaker of truths that cannot otherwise be expressed. The analyst Kohut understood how powerful this sense of direct access to the mind of another — the feeling of being part of its intimate workings — could be in nurturing identification of the sort we can see among Trump’s followers.

He invites others to identify with his aggression and independence from constraining norms.

As one supporter recently explained her vote for Trump, “he says the things out loud that I say to myself.”

... his appeal lies in the fact that he has prevailed not despite but because of all of his lies, anger, contempt toward losers, intolerance of dissent, and bombastic grandiosity. His flouting of just about every political, social, and sexual norm has only enhanced his appeal to his devotees. In short: His narcissism is a resource for — not an impediment to — his electoral and political success. [emphasis mine, order changed]

Duh. His sleaziness is a feature, not a bug. Everything that's' most reprehensible about him is precisely what his base will continue to worship. The end of civilization as we thought we knew it could have been Cohn's advice never to apologize and to create chaos to distract attention.

"never to apologize and to create chaos to distract attention."

Cohn is the same Roy Cohn "who embraced infamy during the McCarthy hearings and Rosenberg trial, influenced Donald Trump to turn the tabloids into a soapbox."

Hold tRump's accountable in what he says and does. Turn his chaos into understanding his tactic and brush aside his distractions.

About the ghastly Rosenberg affair, Hannah Arendt said, "An unimaginable stupidity must have taken hold in the USA. It frightens us because we are familiar with it." (1953)

And the stupidity just keeps on keeping on.

That also makes me think of this quote: "The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function." - Dr. Al Bartlett

Or choosing not to understand it because that's what you get paid for. You get the really big bucks for making sure others don't understand it.

Concur Bertold!

Then, we have to understand his thoughts, words, and actions. Are we able to figure him out before the chaos hits?

Is there any way to get the nuclear power away from his grasp?

You get the really big bucks for making sure others don't understand it.

So when all we have to do is what kids do as they grow up, political leaders want us to use Robert's Rules of Order! And they talk of "our democracy"!

They lead and we, instead of kicking their tails, ...follow!

Relax, folks. Natural selection will improve on us.

A.) Well, that's comforting. The improvements should start showing up right away in what, 8, 10 generations hence. If there are that many.

B.) Improve on us? Pretty low bar

I swear one woman was having an orgasm when dolt 45 looked straight at her during a dolt rally. 45 was thinking ' not even a one'
Kathy, that sets a low bar for an orgasm, but:
1) a low-bar orgasm is better than no orgasm, and
2) dolt45's life at last has a purpose.
