This is a group those interested in fomenting nontheistic religion. If we want a world without supernaturalism, we're going to have to meet the basic human need for religion by creating and maintaining religion without the supernatural.

I just heard on the Atheist News Podcast that Atheist non-profit organizations have much more difficulty getting tax-exempt status than churches. Also, once they get tax exempt status, nonreligious organizations must fully disclose their finances whereas the religious organizations do not need to disclose finances.

I wonder if nontheistic religions such as pantheism would have the same difficulty. Is it just the word atheist that causes problems? Would The First Pantheistic Church be considered a religion and therefore experience the same benefits as religions?

I've added a couple of groups with websites to the discussion forum. I'll come back later to add more. We can also begin discussing what aspects of religion are essential and what can be dispensed with.
