Hmm, wacky. I must be mixing up Fayetteville with Jacksonville or something.

When it comes to the privatization of Law Enforcement and such, I always worry about such private organizations being answerable more to the people holding the purse strings than to the public. I see pure Libertarianism as the route to an aristocracy. Absolute freedom is never an end point. Someone always makes a power grab.

I'm all for fiscal responsibility, just not fiscal conservatism.

Also, I'm probably a bit militant anti-Libertarianism because most of my exposure is to the extremists. The guys on our group's boards are the sort who think that all taxation should be illegal, and the only role of the government should be contract law.

Joseph P, Charlotte doesn't use meetup anymore. Our group has it's own site:

It was something like 3 or 4 months ago. I can't even remember which specific group it was.

Yeah, it takes a while to grow a group to any kind of size. It doesn't help that the Fayetteville area is far more conservative and religious than the Triangle, the Triad, or Charlotte.

How active are the Cape Fear groups? The Triangle group had a meetup where we were going to have a few of the Cape Fear group show up, but we never saw them that I'm aware of.

Wow, I was just doing a search for atheist groups in Charlotte, on The closest I found was The Well Read Atheist, which has all of 17 members. What the hell? Anyone else know of any other Charlotte Atheism groups? That's pretty pitiful, for a city that size. The Triangle area group has 764 members, as of this morning.

Meh, you should just say heck with it and move to Raleigh.

I don't suppose anyone lives near Waxhaw...? (Weddington)
I wouldn't think so, seeing as around here it's Church, CVS, field, church, field etc.
Let me know, though.

Wow, that's a way out there. I think your best bet is the Asheville group. Maybe some of the members of that will be near you. I know there's a vaguely active Western NC group on

When i plugged in Atheists and Asheville, NC, the only result I got was Where's Brevard County?

There are only 47 members, most of those probably not very active. Not looking good.

Picnic had a pretty good turnout, there were 50-60 folks from as far wast as Knoxville and as far east as Charlotte.

We'll be planning next year for two events one in Spring the other around this time again.

Yeah, I've seen that in our group. I don't think I can make that, though.
