I like it here too, I just hate winter :) I think complaining about winter has become a tradition in my family, actually. At least Columbus isn't as bad as Cleveland, as far as winter goes. One year there was more than enough for me. By the way, the hippie look should make a comeback . . . I think I still have my old clothes here somewhere!

Hey Dan,
Ohioans don't believe in god, because they live in Ohio! You're right about the southerners though :) Actually, I was born in Akron and I've lived in Canton, Cuyahoga Falls and Cleveland. Now I'm in Columbus. Maybe before I die I'll get out of here. If I believed in purgatory . . . Ohio would be what it looks like.

PS us older folks get cranky in the winter

Oh don't be hatin' on Ohio. I've been to way shittier places. New Jersey, for example. And I'm trying to pull together the freethinkers in the Akron area, Susan. Its actually one of the handful of cities in the US that has its own CFI sub-branch.

And Ohio has one major advantage over the warmer southern doesn't have any southerners! ;)

Columbus here. This city seems much more enlightened than the Akron area, where I used to live. Probably because there are several colleges here and a lot of company headquarters, ( intelligent professionals). It seems as if half the people who live here came from somewhere else, which also helps. And Shalynn, in my opinion, OHIO is the shithole of the world! I wish I could afford to move somewhere warmer, but at my age it doesn't seem worth the effort anymore. I do like Columbus though.

Yes, it's still going on! In fact, the "Devil's Hole Irregulars" weekly gathering has been going strong for a number of years. Attendance has been up too! I think we had eighteen people last week. Sitting in one room and sharing ideas with so many intelligent, freethinking folk has become one of the highlights of my week.
The format is that of a (semi)moderated discussion group. Everyone has an opportunity to share (or not to). Sometimes we watch a newsworthy youtube or something like that to get things started. It's pretty random, but I always come away having learned something valuable.
The place that hosts the group is a VERY liberal Unitarian congregation with many humanist/atheist members. Some chose to attend the service afterward, some do not. It's all good.

Anyone in the Cincinnati area?
Ken miller will be in town this week. Okay, he's not an atheist, but he's a hero in my book.

Yes, Virginia, there really is an atheist/agnostic/freethinkers discussion group in Northwest Ohio. About a dozen or so of us meet every Sunday morning at 10:00 and talk about all those things that you're not suppose to discuss in polite company. Come and enjoy semi-organized anarchy at it's finest. Where?
