There is more evidence that Mars may have supported life. That is, organic material (the building blocks of life) has been discovered on the planet by the Mars rover, Curiosity. Earlier Curiosity established that there had been rivers and lakes on Mars. Additionally, it has detected methane (a gas that can be produced through biological processes) in the atmosphere of Mars. Per the article:
“We have had a major discovery. We have found organics on Mars,” Curiosity lead scientist John Grotzinger, with the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., said during a webcast press conference at the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco. Whether the organics were delivered by carbon-rich meteorites or formed on Mars has yet to be determined.
