Social practices and cultural beliefs of modern life are preventing healthy brain and emotional development in children, according to an interdisciplinary body of research presented recently at a symposium at the University of Notre Dame.
Thanks for sharing Ruth! This does not at all surprise me. I never understood the concept of letting a baby cry. I always thought a crying baby would have been an added danger for a community, and surely anyone around him/her would want to soothe the baby.
I'm of the opinion (no surprise there!) that it's not a black and white situation. I usually had a 5 minute time limit for "crying it out"--10' max. Check diaper, hold and rock, try again. Worked for me.
