Politics, Economics, and Religion

Religion has so many connections to political and economic beliefs, there needs to be a place to identify linkages, problems, goals, options, action plans and evaluation criteria.

What is the purpose of life?

An eternal question, what is the purpose of life?, occupied philosophers’ thoughts throughout history. Stone pictographs reveal even primitive peoples reflected on this query. Each one has the capacity to define his or her personal thinking about politics, economics and religion.

On 45*'s executive order last week undermining the Affordable Care Act:

President Donald Trump detonating a bomb under the “Obamacare” ambulance and saying “See? I told you it was imploding”As Ruth wrote to her senators and congressman on Friday (shared in Writing to Congress):

I urge you to support Trump’s impeachment. Trump’s willful destruction of Obamacare, a law passed by the Congress – not a regulation promulgated by federal departments – would violate his oath to uphold the Constitution, whose Article Two demands that the president “take care that the laws be faithfully executed”. Trump’s executive order on Obamacare violates that “Take Care” clause. Harvard Law professor Noah Feldman advises, “The Constitution recognizes that the president can’t necessarily enforce every law. But it requires a good-faith effort. And declining to enforce the law so that the law itself ceases to be able to function isn’t good faith.

How many divisions do toddlers or zygotes in petri dishes have?

Comment by Bertold Brautigan on October 11, 2017 at 6:55pm

What would those same jurisprudence experts do if driving down the street they found it inevitable that they would either run over a toddler or a zygote in a petri dish?

In a classroom, comparing the life of a zygote, etc with that of a living, etc person might earn a student a passing grade.

In a courtroom, attorneys will argue whether a zygote and a person are entitled to the equal protections of law.

Grinning Cat, you put into words what I tried to say, and the words just would not form. Your choice of words tell exactly what I wanted to convey.

"The "pro-life" anti-abortion / pro-forced-birth advocates offer an unspoken false equivalence, that needs to be spoken and refuted whenever it appears. The life of a zygote / embryo / fetus is not the same as that of a living, breathing, sentient, self-aware person who has a quality of life and wants to continue living."
