Politics, Economics, and Religion

Religion has so many connections to political and economic beliefs, there needs to be a place to identify linkages, problems, goals, options, action plans and evaluation criteria.

What is the purpose of life?

An eternal question, what is the purpose of life?, occupied philosophers’ thoughts throughout history. Stone pictographs reveal even primitive peoples reflected on this query. Each one has the capacity to define his or her personal thinking about politics, economics and religion.

A friend recently wrote me a thought-provoking discussion: ”Decades ago I read that each generation has to win its freedoms. May I, without being charged with donning rose-tinted glasses, ask if America’s next generation will rewin only lost…Continue

Suckers for Civility (Steve Shives)

Anyone here remember that funky old movie with Patrick Swayze, "Road House?" Swayze plays the cooler at a gin joint whose clientele are barely civilized, and he's tasked with bringing the place under control.  There's that one scene where he's…Continue

Primatologist Frans de Waal ”explores the privileges and costs of power of the ‘alpha male’ while drawing surprising parallels between how humans and primates choose their leaders.”

De Waal’s research reveals the ”unexpected capacities of alpha males — generosity, empathy, even peacekeeping — and sheds light on the power struggles of human politicians.”

"Someone who is big and strong and intimidates and insults everyone is not necessarily an alpha male," he is a bully.

~ Frans de Waal, primatologist

Another interesting aspect of this shock experiment on rats is that the same process was performed on dogs, cats, birds, fish, octopi, and all sentient creatures responded the same way, they began to fight each other! Humans, even though our brain cavity has grown, our understanding of the cause of the pain has not advanced beyond that of the rat. The good news is, Homo sapiens have the capacity to move beyond others of the animal kingdom; we have the ability to STOP, THINK, PLACE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PAIN IN THE CORRECT PLACE, AND TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE REAL CAUSE.

Apparently dear Donnie has no idea:

  • How stupid he looks to us and
  • How many different ways people may work around his stupidity.

And there's also the matter of the unlikelihood of his actually learning otherwise.

#BuyCanadian: Pocketbook patriotism takes off amid U.S. trade tensions.

'I'm not going to let you push my country around,' says Winnipegger after cancelling U.S. cruise.
Bonnie Hallman of Winnipeg had been booked to board a Disney cruise next summer to bask in the untamed wilderness of Alaska, which she had longed to see since flipping through copies of the state's tourism magazine as a teenager — until a simmering trade standoff with the U.S. forced her to rethink her travel plans.
The 53-year-old geography professor said she scrapped her dream Alaskan getaway in favour of a trip to P.E.I. shortly after President Donald Trump took aim at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for pushing back against American tariffs on steel and aluminum.
She's among a number of social media users who have resolved to #BuyCanadian in an effort to bolster homegrown industry amid fraying trade relations with the U.S...………..
