Politics, Economics, and Religion

Religion has so many connections to political and economic beliefs, there needs to be a place to identify linkages, problems, goals, options, action plans and evaluation criteria.

What is the purpose of life?

An eternal question, what is the purpose of life?, occupied philosophers’ thoughts throughout history. Stone pictographs reveal even primitive peoples reflected on this query. Each one has the capacity to define his or her personal thinking about politics, economics and religion.

The SHUTDOWN... (Mitch McConnell as a turtle, with webbed green hands and feet, the Capitol dome as his shell; a reporter asks) “Sen. McConnell, what are you doing to re-open the government?” (Next frame: McConnell has withdrawn into his shell, which has shut with a SNAP.)

Lester Brown, Brown, Lester, Plan B 4.0: Mobilizing to Save Civilization., “. . . a highly readable and authoritative account of the problems we face from global warming to shrinking water resources, fisheries, forests, etc. The picture is very frightening. But the book also provides a way forward.”

—Clare Short, a review, British Member of Parliament

I like the way Lester Brown offers a diagnosis of problems, explores options, chooses and develops an action plan and evaluates its effectiveness.

I mentioned this at Humanist Jews; worth a mention here too:

I just learned about Jews for a Secular Democracy, an initiative working to maintain and strengthen the separation between church and state in the US.

From their website's main page:

Key Issues We Address

Ending Government-Sanctioned Discrimination [...]

Requiring Science-Based Government Decisions [...]

Rejecting Policies Guided by Just One Religion’s Version of “Family Values.” [...]

Insisting That Youth Education Include Secular Education [...]

Their blog also looks like it has worthwhile reading, including "Why Do Religious Fundamentalists Believe That TheirReligious Culture and the Political State Are One and the Same?"

Donald Trump declaring before applauding legislators, 'THE STATE OF OUR UNION IS STRONG!' He's actually in the Russian Parliament, with a Russian flag barely visible to our left. (The tiny cartoonist in the margin remarks, 'And they're not tired of winning!')

Couple sitting at a table with coffee and newspapers: “We should just use our thoughts and prayers to protect our borders, like we use them to protect our schools.”

No author was listed on the site I copied it from, but that seems to be the right one.
