What is the purpose of life?

An eternal question, what is the purpose of life?, occupied philosophers’ thoughts throughout history. Stone pictographs reveal even primitive peoples reflected on this query. Each one has the capacity to define his or her personal thinking about politics, economics and religion.

No, Joan, I wouldn't.  If I were wealthy, I would probably invest to some degree, but certainly not all.

Comment by Tom Sarbeck on December 15, 2019 at 4:20pm

I tried, Joan, to imagine myself with money to invest. I failed.

Imagine:

*all your investments were held in a diverse portfolio focused on the social impacts you care about,

* you invest assets with regard for the impact the investments have one people, the environment, climate, and Earth,

*you know the research about whether this new approach would generate more financial return or lower risk was inconclusive,

would you agree to the proposal?

Grinning Cat, Gerrymandering. put in a proper perspective!

North American fossil fuel interests just guaranteed future catastrophe for all.

The oil and gas industry plans to invest 1.4 trillion dollars in new extraction projects over the next four years.

This would lock in 148 gigatonnes of cumulative carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to 1200 new US coal-fired power plants. The report reveals 85 percent of the expanded production is slated to come from the United States and Canada over that period. [emphasis mine]

Yet another irregularly scheduled political cartoon, adding religion to the mix. (As usual, click to embiggen; copy-and-paste into a plain-text window to get the ALT text.)

The hand of God descends from the clouds, pointing to Donald Trump with a sign, 'Guilty'. A Republican (anthropomorphized elephant in suit) says, 'Nope. Not good enough. Just another unelected career official.' (In the margin, a tiny Republican elephant adds, '...hovering over the surface of the Deep State.')

Billboard mounted on top of (Trump's) White House: 'YEP. I totally violated the OATH OF OFFICE' (Commenters: 'So much for the charges of a cover-up')

What if members of Congress looked as gerrymandered as their districts? [A congresswoman and congressman greeting each other, with grotesquely rearranged and distorted faces]

While I don't normally approve of namecalling, Tom, I'm sufficiently angry and disgusted by the corporatist/theist Supreme court takeover to applaud "SCROTUS". I'm livid the way they've cast out precedent without even justification. I think shaming is legitimate protest, public display is disrespect, just as much as carrying signs and getting arrested.
