They bring in nationally known speakers (Austin Dacey, Lawrence Krauss, Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris), are starting up a critical thinking course, potlucks, picnics, camping events, volunteer work, humanist film festival. They participate in local atheist activism, and sponsor several atheist meetups in the Portland area. Over 150 local events per year! Come join the community - exciting things are happening!

United States Atheists
I have not attended one of their meetings yet, but there is a group called "United States Atheists" that has their headquarters on SE Foster. I am thinking about checking them out soon. They have meetings on Tuesday nights at 7:30.

Portland Area Humanism Meetup
The Humanists of Greater Portland (HGP) are reaching out! We have been meeting downtown every Sunday morning for a decade, for questions, discussion, and socializing, all anchored to an interesting program. Everyone is welcome to attend those meetings, and we get some attendees traveling 25 miles each way, but they don't work for everyone.

Secular Parents of Greater Portland
This is a meetup for parents who are raising their children without religion, who love reason as well as art, and who are looking for a community where they can find fun, support, and great company for themselves and their children.

The Beaverton Atheists Meetup Group
Meet local atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, scientific naturalists and other friends of reason for conversation and friendship! We often meet on Portland's West side but welcome people from anywhere.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster Lands for a Pint
Meet other local atheists, freethinkers and heathens. Gather to discuss beliefs and philosophies, and make new friends.
Causal, open conversation at various pubs and events!

Secular Humanists of East Portland
They meet every two weeks in SE Portland. The typical format is watching science or religion related movies at one of the members' houses with discussion afterwords. Potlucks quarterly and some outdoor activities planned this summer.

Vancouver Skeptics Meetup
The newest Atheist group near Portland. They plan to meet once per month for drinks, food, and conversation at a local restaurant.

For other groups local to Portland, you can look here for a gathering near you: "Groups pertaining to 'atheist' within 25 miles of downtown Portland."

Greetings from up North... My fiancee' and I are living in the Seattle area but will be moving back to my home town of Portland very soon. I hope that some, it not all of you, were able to see Richard Dawkins at PSU on the 10th, we saw him last week up here at UW and it was amazing!
Be aware that Kirk Cameron is up to no good and is rumored to personally either be up here at UW or down there at PSU spewing his poison and handing out altered copies of Origin of Species. Please see for details. Lets all stop him!

Dear Brother Sam,
I heard a nasty rumor that you might be coming back this-a-way. Don't you dare come within 300 miles of this town and not stop in for a drink with your boys.
