If the ignorance of nature gave birth to such a variety of gods, the knowledge of this nature is calculated to destroy them.
― Paul Henri Thiry

Lovely concept.  All I want to know is WHEN.

Of course they want to stop it, Ruth ... when it was their boy in the hot seat!

The John Birch Society once fulminated on the idea of Soviet infiltration of the U.S. government; now, it wants to stop the investigation into Russia’s 2016 election meddling and possible collusion with the campaign of President Donald Trump.

Interesting Orwell quote, Joan.

'But if the gods do not exist at all - then we are lost,' I said.
'On the contrary - we are found!' said Aesop.
'But when we are afraid, who can we turn to, if not the gods?'
'Ourselves. We turn to ourselves anyway. We only pretend there are gods and that they care about us. It is a comforting falsehood.'
― Erica Jong

I've said it many times: reliance on something that doesn't exist does harm to ALL of us.

There is much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge. -

Ruth, if you think THAT is bad, try this on for size:

I gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live.  I defiled them through their very gifts, in their offering up all their firstborn, in order that I might horrify them, so that they might now that I am the LORD.
-- Ezekiel 20:25-26

Now, somebody tell me: HOW FUCKED UP IS THAT???

In chess, both players have two bishops, one on a red square and one on a black square. Since bishops move diagonally, there is no circumstance which would allow a player to have both of their bishops on the same color while remaining within the rules of chess.

A miracle is two bishops on black squares. It is replacing the order of natural physical law with the whim of a putative creator, acting out because he feels like it or other lame excuse.

I didn't know about Isaiah 45:7. Thanks.

In a race between those appealing to the passionately ignorant with contentious wedge issues and those paying lip service to progressivism while governing for plutocrats, the passionately ignorant will always win.
