Quotation Of The Day

A place to post quotations that inspired you, made your day better, or made you pause and think.

I will be taking a reduced role at Atheist Nexus as of Oct 1, 2017.  I will not be moderating this group after that time, and I will be re-zeroing most of my groups and comments.

If there are quotations that you wish to save, I recommend that you save them now.

Since this is a popular group, I recommend that a member start up a new group for quotations, so that the members can continue adding and reading their favorite quotes.

Thanks and happy reading!

I like to think some of it has functioning brains.

Because the universe (despite appearances) isn't totally stupid?

If God has spoken, why is not the universe convinced?

Paul-Henri Thiry

The religionist is a living fossil, embedded in that rock called faith.
― Robert G. Ingersoll

Once again, Ingersoll is utterly on point here.  Believers' fossilized and absolutist position on their god is supposedly unchanged and unchangeable, while the world around them is nothing BUT change.  Sad and frightening.

The Burroughs and Deutsch quotes are great.

Your personal quote is apt for *45, Loren.

"... to have an ego the size of Mount Rushmore, while simultaneously having an understanding about as deep as a sidewalk puddle.

Definition of a "nation" - A group of people united by a mistaken view about the past and a hatred of their neighbors.

I received your letter of June 10th. I have never talked to a Jesuit priest in my life and I am astonished by the audacity to tell such lies about me. From the viewpoint of a Jesuit priest I am, of course, and have always been an atheist.
― Albert Einstein

Are you listening, Jorge Bergoglio?!?

Science has done more for the development of western civilization in one hundred years than Christianity did in eighteen hundred years.

- John Burroughs

"Our leaders have described the recent atrocity with the customary cliche: mindless cowardice. "Mindless" may be a suitable word for the vandalizing of a telephone box. It is not helpful for understanding what hit New York on September 11. Those people were not mindless and they were certainly not cowards. On the contrary, they had sufficiently effective minds braced with an insane courage, and it would pay us mightily to understand where that courage came from.

It came from religion."

Thanks, Alan, for the quote for 9/11 piece by Dawkins, it is timely.
