I have been a quote collector and quote monger for at least as long as I've been an atheist and probably a good deal longer.  My admiration for those who enjoy reputations as wordsmiths extends even further back, whether we're talking about John F. Kennedy's assertion: "We choose to go to the moon," George Santayana's warning: "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it," or James T. Kirk's deft observation when faced with the dauntingly huge First Federation ship: "Not chess, Mr. Spock ... poker!"

The realm of atheist activism has had its own share of verbal craftsmen and women, from Madalyn Murray O'Hair's: "An atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church." to Aron Ra's succinct: "If you can't show it, you don't know it."

Regardless of the topic, these are words which are capable of fomenting inspiration, reflection, and sometimes even action.  They can educate and illuminate the human condition and allow us to better know ourselves.  That said, here is an open invitation to share those words which have been particularly meaningful or impactful or timely or just special to you for one reason or another.

Let's share those words and have fun!

One bit of clerical business: please hold your quotes in the comment area below to 20 lines or 200 words.  One comment should not so dominate the Home page of this group that no other comment is visible.  That way, the briefer comments and quotes of all participants are more likely to be seen, read, and appreciated.  If you have a long quote or commentary, create a post, please.

What does no-belief in a god or allah or yahway offer one?

* a sense of wonder seeing the birth of a baby;

* gratitude to be alive and participating in life;

* appreciation of all one's senses, especially seeing the beauty of those we love, hearing the sounds of cooperative effort; smelling the aroma of bread baking in a wood stove oven, tasting a good cheese; touching the hand of the elder knowing life was not easy for that person;

* thinking with others to solve complex problems;

* engaging in manual labor while preparing the garden for spring planting;

*  meditating quietly in a garden retreat while finding peace and calm.

* gazing at the stars on a clear, cold night knowing that there are forces in nature that maintains order;

* realizing I am a scion of thousands of generations of mixes of  gene pools that inform my instincts;

* knowing I am a conscieous being, one of 7,447,830, 999+ Homo sapiens on the Earth;

* feeling profoundly grateful to be alive.

I don't know the structure, but my guess would be he functions as Bill Donohue's left testicle.

Damn, Bertold.  I have a tough time believing that Catholics are quite THAT STUPID.  I wonder if CV represents a fundamentalist or radical faction of the RCC.  Regardless, that Brian Burch quote you cited is disturbing at best!

Here are the results Burtold has brought attention to:

I wish. He's the perpetrator of a lovely publication (if by publication you mean foaming at the mouth rancid suppurating pustule of a hack propaganda missive) called Catholic Vote.

  Who is Brian Burch?...a comedian?

Say what????

. . . Catholics have been pleasantly surprised by his first year in office. And that shows in our survey results. Just under 5% said Trump had done a poor job. Another 7% were neutral on his first year. But 45% said Trump’s first year was good and 44% said it was excellent.

When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?” This title offends all three major religions, and even vegetarians! "
George Carlin

I wonder... Will that work the next time J.W.s come knocking at my door?

Religion began when the first scoundrel met the first fool.
