Ruth, I have a lot of peeves with the credibility of Sci-fi, but haven't noticed that one. I probably will now though.
I know I'm late to the party, but totally seconded the comments and graphics about Robert Heinlein. He was AND IS my favorite author.
Ruth, that's just one reason it's called "Sci-Fi" (pronounced "skiffy"), rather than Science Fiction or SF.
When Forry Ackerman invented "Sci-Fi" in the 1950s...when High Fidelity sound systems were called Hi-Fi, most science fiction writers and readers groaned, and put it in the same category as the n-word.. And some of us still do.
I know what you mean. I wrote him a fan letter in the early '70s and was totally shocked when he answered it himself! (Well it was more about skating and cats than about SF...not really fanish. My favorite book was/is The Door Into Summer.) I stayed in touch both of them via Ginny, and we were both still exchanging emails and cat pix till a few months before she died.
They were incredibly kind, gracious people.
He was my A-1 all-time hero when I was growing up. Still up there today, come to think of it.
The biggest robbery was the movie itself. Other than Quinto's solid performance, the film was one incredible stupidity after another. I have a very bad feeling about the next Star Wars films.
