Thank you -- I had some really nice follow-up comments to it on the Times site, in apparent spite of the black-and-white vitriol that was otherwise tossed back and forth. (Comments, the last refuge of the fringe asshole... ;-) )

(Incidentally, you also just proved my tech point, using the "add link" features on this site only lets you post the url, not actually LINK to it.
Dear Admin: hello out there?)

PS: love your site...

I always posting links on this page, but I strongly urge everyone to check out Danny Westneat's awesome column in today's Seattle Times and comment on it! This was mine:

"I am a law-abiding citizen, a college graduate, a stay-at-home mother. I am a charitable donor to my local food bank, give to national and international relief efforts, and take my toddler daughters with me to donate their clothes and toys to King County's "baby boutique" for homeless and working poor families, so my children can meet parents and children who are far less fortunate and understand the nature of giving. Though my husband and I are by no means wealthy, we never doubt our incredible fortune: that we were able to work our way through college, that he chose a field that has so far proven recession-proof, that we've thus far made wise financial decisions, that we and our girls are healthy. A single change in that succession of good fortune, and WE might be among the many, MANY unfortunate families at Baby Boutique.

I am deeply ethical, intensely moral, a loving and giving human being who seeks out even the smallest opportunities to give kindness because life is too short for small-heartedness.

I do it not because a book told me to, or a pastor told me to, or a church threatened me to; I do it because I am human, intuitively wired to aid my own species, and because I am American, similarly wired to believe that with just a little help, anyone has the potential to better themselves.

I am a humanist, choosing to do the right thing in this life not out of fear or eternal reward, but because it is its OWN reward."

I hope everyone's been keeping up through the Seattle Times and P-I with the awesome FFRA holiday sign inside the capitol in Olympia! It's created total mayhem -- even been stolen and recovered!

So, my Dad ran the Seattle Half Marathon and said you guys were passing out water at Mile 4. THANK YOU! I didn't get to run that one but I've run half marathons before and we are so grateful! Even though sometimes we're too focused or winded to yell thank you, we truly appreciate it. You guys are awesome and I can't wait to come back to Seattle!
