Sex for fun and non-procreation!

In this world, we can't get away from religion. We've been exposed to false information regarding contraception failure rates and experienced the STD scare tactics. Some of us may even have gone through abstinence-only sex education!

Here in Secular Sexuality we will discuss:

-sexual health in light of peer-reviewed science
-safe for work guides on safe(r) sex (or links)
-questions that would shock the religious

You're right, Joseph, a lot of anti-choice batshittery is consistent with viewing women as "barely-autonomous beings who should be treated like children."

It's still clear that it's not really about treating the termination of a pregnancy on par with killing a baby, or killing someone who's 5 or 10 or 50 or 100 years old. None of us would stand for such inconsistency in murder and manslaughter laws.

(Though I remember reading about scary attempts to subject women who've miscarried to criminal investigation!)

That's definitely a thing, yeah. If you talk to almost all of the extreme anti-abortion nuts, if you ask them the simple question, "What should the punishment be for women who have an abortion?"

Almost all of them will say something about how it should be illegal, but there shouldn't be a punishment for the woman ... as if that's a real thing.

Although, I guess it's sort of consistent with what is often their perspective of women being barely-autonomous beings who should be treated like children.  Women are just innocent pawns of the evil abortion doctors who force them into decisions that they're not capable of making on their own.

There's plenty of evidence that many anti-abortion activists don't really consider abortion to be murder. (Like not calling for life sentences for women who've gotten abortions, or for doctors who perform them. Or making exceptions for rape or incest.)

Another example: parental consent laws.

Bennett at peacefire.org writes (as part of the broader topics of internet censorship and civil rights of minors):

... the decision to "end a life" is OK if your parents sign off on it? I guess that means that if you get arrested for shooting a convenience store clerk, you'd better have that note from your Mom.
