Sex for fun and non-procreation!

In this world, we can't get away from religion. We've been exposed to false information regarding contraception failure rates and experienced the STD scare tactics. Some of us may even have gone through abstinence-only sex education!

Here in Secular Sexuality we will discuss:

-sexual health in light of peer-reviewed science
-safe for work guides on safe(r) sex (or links)
-questions that would shock the religious

Do I have to be an adult, emotionally?

Funny how you can get an idea of what you're going to find upon hitting the Search button, when Google refuses to give you any preliminary results without your express Search command.

Cool.  I don't specifically have a big-busted MILF fantasy, but I've got no complaints, either.

Also, TNT, the article in question was mostly dealing with sex between men and underage boys.  There's a bit of a difference there.

Well Bethany, I sincerely hope, for the sake of your son, that you speak the truth about how you're educating him, because frankly, the tone of your discourse hints otherwise. Like I said, I have had sex with adult males, who have told me that their first copulations were before age 10, not always with people their own age, and they were healthy and normal members of society. It's not the age that counts, but the maturity and knowledge.

15 years old doesn't make it pedophilia, either.  Illegal in most states, if your partner was over 18, but not pedophilia.  That term refers specifically to sex with prepubescents.

I'm a female who had my first sexual explorations with others from age 15, and copulation only at 17, why? because I was educated on sexual matters since age 7, through scientific readings. I simply hope your son has the same access to information.

I'd like to know the answer to that as well.

why, would you become a violent and hysterical parent?

One aspect that constantly annoys me with the hysteria over pedophilia is that the media and many do-gooder parents confound all age groups under the arbitrary "statutory rape" category dictated by modern Christian sensitivities. Our modern society, in the context of our prolonged life under medical maintenance, has created a shift in the expectations of youths' behaviours. As a society we infantilise teenagers and 'tweens'. We don't even need to look back more than a century to find that sexual activity, historically, always began as soon as puberty was started, and explorations happened before puberty. Physically, from the onset of hormonal changes, the bodies of humans are ready for sexual activity. BUT in a society which infantilises youth, these youth are not mentally prepared for this aspect of their lives. This is the abstinence approach to sexuality and it is unhealthy. Of course for a youth who is mentally unprepared for sexual activity, any sex (not just from adults) will be unhealthy and traumatising. Before our uber-protective, 'moms against this and that' society, kids were prepared for sexual activity, through rituals, even before puberty, in order to be ready, to be mentally primed, for that sexual activity.

The mental priming is everything. It's not just a matter of age... a 20 y/o virgin who's not mentally prepared for sexual activity will also be traumatised by sexual activity.

As in many areas of debate, the bottom line is knowledge. Lack of knowledge always leads down a faulty path, knowledge and preparedness is the absolute best protection of one's sanity in life. So please, parents:

-stop infantilising your offspring past infancy, there comes a time when they're no longer infants

-stop letting your mind be warped by stupid low-brow TV shows such as To Catch a Predator

Both behaviours do a disservice to your tweens and teens.

Of course, as Bethany stated, a 10 y/o is generally pre-pubescent, but on a bell curve, there is a slight change that this 10y/o is verging on readiness for sexual activity, especially given that the age of puberty has been dropping since several decades. I've known several guys in my life who were being sexually exploratory at that age, so I hope you've readied him :)

As a society we need to do away with this hysteria and look at sexuality as a normal occurrence in animal life, from a quite early age. I don't expect this kind of maturity from a religious person, but I do from atheists.
