I don't usually watch baseball games on TV (boring), but with nothing else on (unless you're interested in the Trump saga), I watched a White Sox game last night. They were my team growing up in South Bend. Somewhere along the line, I switched allegiance to the Cubs.

Anyway, the game had several rarities: one was a triple play (plus 4 double plays), the other a grand slam on the batter's first ever home run. Pretty neat!

Quite a weekend of upsets, particularly highlighting the Kentucky Derby and the PGA Wells Fargo golf tourney. 65 to 1 odds winner Country Time wins the K.D. in a disqualification. And a guy ranked 417th in the world beats a tough field by 3 strokes.

Oh, and the Cubs swept the first place Cardinals!

I watched almost all of the final day Masters coverage, and I have to say, Tiger Woods was just Mr. Steady throughout, particularly on the back nine.  He managed a par on 12 when Finau and Mollanari took a swim and got birdies where he needed them, which allowed him to relax, if only slightly on 18.

Frankly, I thought his play was brilliant, and I doubt mightily that we've heard the last of Tiger.

Ah Ha! So there's still hope for my degenerating golf game, eh? If Tiger can do it at his "advanced" age, perhaps I can too. Doubtful.

I continue to be surprised at the outpouring of support for Tiger. His personal life is (was) nothing to be proud of. His personality doesn't please many people. And, above all, in this racist society, he's black. But the crowds were adoring. I was glad he won.

"A game of inches", a phrase often heard in so many sports. I can certainly attest to that when my putt rims out. But, in this case, it's basketball.

How many times did the game come down to a matter of inches, whether literally or figuratively? Virginia's last two wins (over Purdue and Auburn) were nothing short of miraculous. I'd say luck had a lot to do with it. Of course, others would credit prayer. We know how foolish that is.

Heartbreaking--that's all I can say. Purdue loses in overtime.

Man, if Duke isn't the luckiest team in the world, I don't know who is. And, of course, they are the "Yankees" of basketball--hated by many.

"My" team, Purdue, is in the "elite 8", but I'm afraid the end comes today. And the team I picked to win the whole thing--N.Carolina--lost last night.

Are you ready? Got your picks? (Not doing it this year.) Let the tourney begin! Like watching a fire burn or the results of a car crash, I will be an observer of many games. My team (IU) is not in the Big Dance (NIT, however), so I really have no team to root for, and, therefore, don't really care (maybe Purdue, since I live close to it).

I know one thing: the sound will be muted at all times. As I've said before, why listen to the obvious ("It's a 3 pointer!" "Out of bounds".)? And, besides, with obnoxiously loud "floor mikes" for crowd noise and squeaky gym shoes, it's impossible to understand what the announcers are saying.

Despite all that, enjoy the games! Remember, in the end, there's only one winner and 67 losers.

What I "maketh" of that is that Baker Mayfield has a REALLY NICE TARGET to throw at.  Seems as though a lot of sports writers have the Browns winning (or at least being VERY competitive in) the AFC North.  I don't know as I want to go THAT far, but I think it may be safe to say that the Browns are no longer a safe "W" for the opposing team!

So, Odell Beckham is now a Brown. Wonder what Loren maketh of that?

Well, if you're a fan of college basketball, 'tis the season. Frankly, it has become less inducing to watch. I did watch much of Gonzaga and St. Mary's the other night, and noticed that St. Mary's had an all white team. In this day and age, so see even one white dude on the floor is a rarity. No big deal. Just saying.
