I gotta say, one must have to be a real sports fan to sit for 3 hours in frigid weather watching a baseball game. Even when it's on TV! I'm thinking, "Are these people crazy or what?" while I'm sitting comfortably in my recliner watching the same game. And what do they pay to suffer like that?
Well, my Pacers lost to the Cavaliers last night (as expected). I sort of watched--book in hand, sound muted. I mute not only so I can concentrate on the book I'm reading, but to tune out the obnoxious arena music and chants ("Defense, defense, defense") and pounding drums, not to mention the incessant chatter by the announcers. Am I getting old or what?!
Pleased to have you on board, GC! Feel free to discuss whatever is on your mind (as you already did). Six lies a day, eh? That's all?
Like Bertold, I never thought I'd comment here. (One of many reasons why my "typical American guy" card was revoked long ago.) Years ago a friend took me to my first (and only so far) major league baseball game; being there in person and being able to watch the crowd was a lot more interesting than seeing a game on TV!
Anyway, from skimming "What Sport Causes the Most Farting?":
...in golf... every man is entrusted to keep his own score, and will be socially shunned forever if he does it in a manner that is deemed unsatisfactory by his rich asshole peers. SO MUCH INTEGRITY.
Huge orange counterexample: The US Liar-in-Chief (averaging six lies a day), Popular Vote Loser, Deceitful Donald, Dolt 45*.
(Yes, cheap name-calling, but he deserves every bit of it.)
Being from Indiana, I follow the Pacers (pro basketball). Because they were playing Cleveland (and star Lebron James), they were actually on national television--only the second time all year! Cleveland's been on 32 times! What a shame, because the Pacers have an exciting team. Oh yes, they won 98 to 80.
I thought the Masters this year was terrific golf, especially with that late drive that Jordan Spieth made in the final round. For a while there, I thought we were looking at a playoff, but Reed pulled it out. Add that to the fact that Augusta has to be one of the most beautiful golf venues out there and it made for a really good time.
I've never watched so much golf in my life!! But, it was terribly compelling. Fortunately, the weather here was not conducive to being outdoors. (And it's snowing right now.)
I wasn't rooting on anybody in particular, so I watching The Masters was stress free. The winner (Patrick Reed) deserved to win. Still, there was enough drama to keep me watching.
No more TV golf for awhile. I'm eager to start playing, however.
[chuckle] And I'd rather watch the game than play it ... but then, I'm a lazy bum. Besides, I have neither the scratch nor the skill to tackle Augusta and not be ridiculously over par.
I reckon TV viewership must be very high for ESPN to cover The Masters from 3 PM on, all through the evening, repeating the afternoon coverage. It's way too much for me. I'd rather play the game than watch it.
LOL - I have to agree that baseball is absolutely the worst snore of all. I'd rather watch paint dry.
Glad to have you join the group, Bertold. And yes, your "comment" is most welcome! Personally, I think golf is the sport that causes the most farts, and I should know.
Speaking of boring sports (to watch on TV), I rank golf and baseball right up there. Let's add soccer and hockey to the list, and especially, figure skating.
Sorta makes you wonder why I even started this group!
