I have a basic understanding of the separation of church and state, and I am a huge advocate.  It's why I joined ffrf.  I think people should be free to be religious or not.  I get why church/state…Continue

Oh - my poor 9 year old.

I was helping her with a school paper last night when I was forced to burst a big time bubble for her.

Her paper was about our German heritage and what traditions we celebrate to continue. My family is pretty American so we had to stretch the boundaries. We settled on the celebration of X-mas with pine trees as the Germans did.

She agreed stating that Marin Luther was German and he invented the Christmas Tree (poor thing).

I had to be the guy to tell her the decorating of pine and the celebration of Christmas itself was stolen from the pagans celebrating the Winter Solstice. She is unconvinced, and vowed to research.

Maybe the discussion that all religion is myth just like Santa will go easier than I expected.

I'll try to remember my camera, but because my job doesn't involve an actual set route, I'm not sure if I'll end up in that particular area any time soon. I might have a lead on a facebook friend who is closer. Maybe I can get him to do the leg-work. He's actually the one who mentioned Atheist Nexus as somewhere to post on this. I did post a similar message to the FFRF group here, also. Thanks for the input and the welcome!

Just joined Atheist Nexus and this group. I did this for a specific purpose. Is there a group member near Greenfield? I was there for work yesterday, and I am almost positive I saw a sign stating the availability of "Stand With Walker" yard signs in front of the Seventh Day Adventist church on Loomis Road. This seems illegal, and was wondering if anybody in the area could check it out, as I won't be back tht way until next Friday at the earliest. Thanks!

Careful, Troy.  In a government-owned venue, you have a legitimate point.  But a private business is free to be religiously biased.  I don't know what kind of job yours is, civil or private, but our chief virtue is that we're more rational about the subject.  I get frustrated with the arrogance of evangelists too, but it simply drives us backward if we appear to be the same kind of assholes they clearly are.

While at work, a woman at the office has gotten into the habit of leaving christian devotionals in our breakroom. In response, I have left statements from FFRF and other fun little tid-bits. All of these have been torn apart and thrown away. When I attempted the same with the devotionals, another appeared with the nasty-gram stating this publication is a magazine deserving of a place next to the others left for public interest... different from my screen prints. This woman subjects the entire office to her church's goings on. She succeeds because of the christian dominance here and anyone who disagrees gets a pretty hostile work environment.

My call is for freethought magazines. If anyone has some dated publications they want recycled, please bring them to the next social. I will bring them to work.

I imagine these also will be destroyed and purged. The end game for me is to submit an HR complaint. First, I need to establish a level playing field.

Any help in my deviance will be admired.

I agree. It is so frustrating in the Waukesha area. I get questioned so often here (in Waukesha), "If you had to stand before God, how would you defend yourself."

My reply, "Well, considering there is no god, I am really not all that worried about it."

Hope to see everyone at the SWiFT social this Thursday. For those interested, I will have recall Scot Walker and Rebecca Kleefisch petitions. To keep the Atheist theme in this string, I hear a story about our Lt. Gov. Apparently, MS. Kleefisch was asked HER idea of an ideal Gov. I am told her response was a Christian Male. Yeah. Our Lt. Gov. does not think she should hold the office. Nice.

Looking forward to the Topic Meeting this Sunday. The film and celebration should be a good time. If we are bringing refreshments, are there any requests? What is the usual fare? This is my first one, so I would like to avoid faux pax if, at all, possible.
