Joan, you’ve poured boiling water over teabags, and you’ve probably made ‘sun tea’.

But for being brewed in a fridge, and having a less acidic taste than hot-brewed coffee, cold-brewed coffee is analogous to sun tea.

And now, seeing the above analogy, I will try ‘sun coffee’. I will brew my next batch of coffee at room temperature.

Good for you, Joan! Sometimes, it's just a test of will power. However, in your case--and mine, too, for that matter--you can always use the excuse of "being old"--that it doesn't matter anymore! I suppose it depends on whether you plan to live an extra 5 years or more (by taking better care of yourself).

Last year, my plan was every other day without sugar. That worked up to a point. On the days with sugar, I over consumed. Not the right idea.

Tom, are there any advantages to cold-brewed coffee? I like cold coffee and usually drink last nights coffee for breakfast.

Randy, you seem slim and trim to me with all your long walks and careful management of your intake. I salute you. 

Perhaps a DAY without sugar, but a whole month would be beyond my ability to resist. 

I had coffee with cream and sugar this morning. OK, tomorrow is the day...NO SUGAR on April 25.

Patricia, you are probably correct.

My first pot of coffee was okay--nothing spectacular. I'll tinker around with the ratios. I'm not a coffee snob anyway.

No Danish quite yet, Joan. Tomorrow marks my final day of a month (4 weeks) without sweets--no cookies, ice cream, chocolate, etc. I did make some sugar free desserts like a recent peach cake. The peaches were sweet enough to satisfy my craving. I lost 3 pounds, by the way, and I'm thin enough.

Sounds as if that coffee pot may have been opened & not properly re-packed, or not packed properly during the boxing process. Hope the new one works right.

Perhaps I wasn't such a bonehead after all.

I returned my coffee maker (with broken pot), and got a free replacement. (Thank you Rural King!). When I opened (carefully) the new one, I discovered the pot WAS protected and secured. The original wasn't. Hmmm, a mystery. After all the trouble I've gone through, I hope the coffee is good!

Tom, I'm not sure what "cold-brewed" coffee is, but I'll check it out.

L&L and I drove to Spokane, 50 miles south of here, to run some errands. The closer we got to Spokane, the more color we saw. Kwanzan cherry and ornamental pear trees in bloom, forsythia, azaleas, daffodils; the colors just blasted out at us. On our return to Newport, fewer and less vibrant blossoms appeared as we drove north. OH! I do miss the spring colors here. Even the forest floor does not have buttercups, shooting stars, cranesbill, or violets do not grow here. 

I was privileged all those years to live with spring colors.
