My stomach I like to keep flat,
So it's coffee I drink by the vat.
   I've recently learned
   It gets calories burned
With a heat-making, brown kind of...

(One of the limericks from this last weekend's episode of "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!")

From Science Daily:

Could coffee be the secret to fighting obesity?

Scientists have discovered that drinking a cup of coffee can stimulate 'brown fat', the body's own fat-fighting defenses, which could be the key to tackling obesity and diabetes.

How I envy you, Randy, with all those blueberries and raspberries! I haven't found a place where I can get access to water to support a good berry crop. Although we have plenty of water for household use, putting in berries will put a strain on the supply. I feel comfortable about the aquifer if I don't overstrain it.

Joan, the blueberry "farm" I went to  is run by a German Baptist man. I was one of only two people picking (small operation). The owner and I talked the whole time while we picked. (He picks to sell.)

The berries were small and not too sweet. He said to come back in a week when another much sweeter variety will be ripe. So, I will! The place is about 30' away.

In the meantime, I have red raspberries at my place that need picking every day. My freezer is filling up rapidly.

Randy, did you find good blueberry picking?

Loren, thank you for the lead to Jim Obergefell and his story! Time well spent, indeed!

Enjoyed a couple cups of Keurig Donut Shop blend while watching a marvelous talk from one Jim Obergefell (yeah, THAT "Obergefell!"), relating the fight for equality he and his husband worked for which gave rise to that momentous 2015 Supreme Court Decision.  Time well spent.

Before the heat of the day hopefully.

I'm off to pick blueberries to a place I've never been to before. It'll be a scorcher today--90+. Gotta get a head start.

Joan, Larry has the right idea! I think I'd like him.

As it turned out, I had dinner with my daughter and family after all. Nate's dad wasn't feeling well, so they canceled their gathering. We had the first BLTs of the season with Nate's own tomatoes (greenhouse). I furnished the strawberries for shortcake dessert.

Plus, all 4 children called, texted, or emailed a Happy Fathers Day message. I'm a very lucky dad.

Randy, Larry felt something similar and so he programmed his whole day:

1. Brunch at Blanchard;

2. Drive to the top of some mountain for the most spectacular sight I have seen in a long, long time; and a nap after.

3. A cold fried chicken dinner with potato salad, and watermelon, which he brought home;

4. A German chocolate cake with a cherry on top, which he brought home.

A lovely day occurred and I didn't have to cook a thing or wash a single dish. Now! That is the kind of Fathers Day celebration I like. I will remember it next Mothers Day
