The Childless and Godless

The Childless and Godless

This is a group to discuss the joy of being childless! I am amazed at the number of atheists I have met over the past few years that are childless by choice, here is a place to discuss stories and experiences!

When I bought my house in 1976 I decided that there were two things I'd never have--kids or dogs. They're both noisy and smell bad. Little kids get on my nerves and I find nothing charming about a whiny, screaming kid. I'm enough of a realist to know that I'd make a terrible parent, hence my decision to remain childless. This has also resulted in my remaining a bachelor, but it's been well worth the price for piece of mind.

Between them and the homeless my library was hell.

I work in a library and simply dread the after-school crowd. It is not hyperbole to say that they act like animals. There's scratching and screaming...

To me children are like dogs. They can be cute and sometimes are nice but as soon as they make loud noises and/or a mess I want to give them back to someone else.

Oh yeah...working in the baby room at daycare, taking care of up to 5 babies at once, totally ruined me to babies.

Working with kids works well also.

haha that condom commercial is the greatest thing ever. Whenever I go to a store and hear one of those screamers, it gets rid of any hint of wanting to have a kid.

I know it's been said before, but I absolutely LOVE the profile pic for this group. Every time I see it, I giggle, smile, and thank imaginary friends in the sky that I've left the childbearing up to those who truly want it.

Watching the little monsters trick-or-treating in my local mall (where I work) made me sick and I had to go home. Ok, maybe not, but the stress of all those little "darlings" did not help... ;) So I left early and called out the next day (I'd rather not have had a fever, but oh well).

Both my mom and a coworker said something similar to me. Only their advice was not to get married.

I've actually experienced quite the opposite. When someone finds out I'm childless by choices they'll quietly tell me, "Don't get me wrong, I love my son/daughter, but if I had it to do over again I wouldn't have had kids." Most people didn't even realize it was a choice that could be made.
