The Childless and Godless

The Childless and Godless

This is a group to discuss the joy of being childless! I am amazed at the number of atheists I have met over the past few years that are childless by choice, here is a place to discuss stories and experiences!

Pamela: We've probably all heard that "selfish" accusation. I have asked such people why *they* are so selfish as to bring helpless children into an overpopulated world. But your religous "friend" most likely thinks the faster we trash the planet the better. IMO, such people are psycho.

*sigh* A religious woman at work was telling me today how selfish I am not to have children. She said it was selfish to just do whatever I want my whole life and I am just trying to avoid responsibility. LOL. I agreed with that last part! I don't WANT that responsibility. But apparently I'm am somehow foiling the plans of the creator of the universe by refusing to sacrifice my life for the next generation. She was very angry with me and had to stop talking to me and walk away because she was so upset!! You'd think I said I like to eat babies for dinner!

Wow! I'm not in this to correct the world. I just don't want to raise babies at my house. ;)

It is funny when I tell family and friends that I don't want kids, and they say something about being fulfilled as a person, my response is always "lucky for me I am already fulfilled". lol

Jacqueline S Homan, I call them pro-birth, because they don't care about what kind of life the kid is going to have after it is born.

My LAST marriage (total mistake from day one) I made it extremely clear from day on I'd never have children ever (at this point I was 29) Well 3 months in he starts whining about how could I make this decision without his input (?) well that was the end of that, we were divorced before we had made it a year (thankfully!!!)

But what if we had had an accident? at that point I was using a diaphragm and if I'd gotten knocked up I have no doubt he would have forced me (through legal channels) to carry a child. I know I definitely dodged a bullet there....

There are plenty of women out there who are not above using guys just to become mommies (unfortunately I know a few) and good luck getting anyone in the government to acknowledge or even mention over-population, just not gonna happen.....

I just do not understand how these people who continue to breed refuse to look at what this world is going to be like in a few years and I'm saying this as a soon to be (step) grandparent, It really makes me sad.

@ Jacqueline Sarah Homan

I also had someone (whom I loved absolutely) decide to leave me (partly) because I was steadfast in my decision to not have children. Apparently it took her 5 years to let that bother her enough. This has helped greatly in advancing my cynicism. Thanks, relationships!

ah yes, "god's plan". If "god" was so powerful, then he wouldn't have to have "plans" for us, he would make things happen, including whether we would have kids. They say he gave one woman a child without even having her have sex, so you would think if he "planned" for you to get married, he would have put a man you couldn't resist in your path and make you want children.

They don't even keep him in character, just keep changing him to suit what they want at the given moment - loving, vengeful, has a plan for us, gives us free will and will punish or reward us based on our choices. Any decent publishing house would reject the bible for its inconsistency if it was written today.

People are surprised when I tell them that I am unmarried with no kids and no plans to change that. I had one person try and tell me that it was part of god's plan for me to get married.
