I didn't know this site existed, and at my age, I might as well join. However, it's my understanding that when one dies, "you can't take it with you". Therefore, I'm not going!

A family member just passed away. This is the first time as an atheist a family member I loved has passed away. It was my mother. I am struggling with the idea that she is gone forever. I don't want to fall back into that old idea of an afterlife but I am just in shock right now and want to see her again so badly. But I'm terrified of the funeral and seeing my relatives, I've been estranged for awhile. What do I do?
