Sushi Q  and Donna Darko  there are some powerful and pro-feminist men on several sites on Atheist Nexus and I get so much encouragement from them. They are strongly advocating for women to speak up and have our say, and quickly respond to those who would put-down, trivialize or demonize women who do take stands for women.

I have a bit of a problem with women who expect to be welcomed and encouraged in hostile environments and yet, that is exactly the place where strong feminist need to be. Sure, we get smacked down and sometimes viciously. We have to get tougher skins, be clearer on what it is that we want and expect, and be willing to confront men and women who are seriously delayed developmentally.

Language of men and women who do not want to hear strong feminists very often is crude, rude, and disgusting. So? That just means we have to be out there more often and in larger numbers. I often come back to the group at A/N and lick my wounds and am grateful to have a place of renewal and restoration.

There are so many issues that need addressing: access to health care, education, jobs, promotions, privacy, equal rights and advocacy for women in patriarchal nations,  are just a few. One person can't take them all on. Each one of us has to pick and choose the issues one wants to work on and develop the rational for thinking as we do, develop strong debate skills, and be willing to stick our head out of the foxholes and duck the arrows and bullets.

There are only atheists in foxholes, at least as far as I can see.

WASPism, Humanism, Muslim, Christian, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, they are all male centred. It's a saddening realisation that most males more sadly many females in the atheist community fail to realise that patriarchy and religion are one and the same.
In Canada there are no atheist groups, there's a bunch of Humanists (which, even if secular, are not principally about being atheist), and some CFIs which are secularists and Humanists. There's a new group in England, called Atheism UK, which are addressing this oddity that atheists groups everywhere are stuck in this endless religious quagmire of religion enabling.

I've tried reading several pages since you posted this. It seems to be hit-and-miss, same pages sometimes loading sometimes not. Looks like their server has the hiccups.

It's back up!

Ok, that's weird...the home page is at and there's a button for their forums on it. But you're right that it's suddenly not loading. I would be NOT AT ALL SURPRISED if they're undergoing denial-of-service attacks or were hacked by assholes.

PS Donna, nice to see you here. I'm friended with you on Rav, just under a different name--

@Sushi Q, i jsut googled Atheismplus and it looks like the site is under construction.

@Sushi Q, that sounds great and right on point but, unfortunately, the link won't load.

See you at Atheism+? It's the flavor of atheism that explicitly includes feminism. It's about time.

We assumed for too long that the atheist movement had our backs. As with so many other groups where we assume we are included, represented, and supported (take your pick...the military, the Peace Corps, government...), it was just not true.

Hi! I am a new member, this is actually the first atheist group I have joined! Anyone from Missouri?
