I've been to several Unitarian churches around the country and they have all been very culturally & racially mixed, no prayers-just a couple of moments of silence (one was after 9/11), & for the most part have different speakers come in & give talks on Sunday morning. Most of the talks center around social responsibility, tolerance, & current events. It's not a church in the traditional sense at all, there is no religious message & it's mostly non-thiests with a smattering of people who do hold to a religion (mostly Buddhists & lapsed Jews) but aren't jerks about it. The only annoying thing I've encountered there were handful of new-agers. And I've met some really awesome Athiests/Agnostics.

Most of the Unitarians I've meet in Philadelphia are snooty, class privileged, white professionals. Unless that's your crowd stay away from the UU church in Center City.

I have trouble even with the word 'church.'

I am leery of churches, even UU ones. My only experience with UU was that the sangha I went to in Massachusetts was in a UU church. I might have to try it out though, if only to meet someone or someones.

Well Caelin, at least you're in good company here at the A/N singles pub.

I agree with Medb, I went to UU services in Colorado. That particular congregation seemed to be geared towards atheists and agnostics, and delivered a great message about finding your own path.

Single again :/

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but in really conservative areas, atheists/agnostics/non-theists often attend Unitarian churches for appearances sake/to be around others who aren't brain dead. When I was in Oklahoma I met quite a few atheists at the local Unitarian church. Might be worth a try
