Yes we still have them.  I'm not too impressed with Redbox, not enough choices.  I rather go into Family Video or alike and rent from hundreds of choices.

Do they still have brick-and-mortar video stores? I haven't seen one in years.

Oh I'll rent it, but probably from a video store.

Redbox?

I didn't care much for the first "reboot" movie and from what I'm reading, I'm glad I didn't go to the theatre to see it and wasted all that money.

If you liked the first of the reboot movies, you'll certainly like this one, too.

This one has a few strong themes.  It seems like they're back to the classic series and TNG, in terms of constructing morality plays, but it wasn't one of the better morality plays I've seen.  There were far stronger ones all throughout the classic series, TNG, and DS9.

There also  wasn't as much character development as the last one.  Decent dialogue and some fun character interaction, but the characters weren't as dynamic as the last movie.  In almost every way, it was a fairly shallow movie, compared to what I was hoping for.

What a review, Joseph. "I can't think of anything really positive to say about it." "Well, they snuck a little bit of plot into all of the action scenes, in the new Star Trek movie." and "A lot of the action felt forced." I haven't seen it yet, but now I'm not in a big rush. *big sigh of disappointment* I am a die hard Trekkie too, so maybe I'll enjoy it anyway, Jeffery. Yes, Andrew, I've already been warned of the superabundance of  lens flares.

I concider myself a die hard Trekkie. I LOVED it.

Is that your way of grudgingly admitting that you liked it Joseph?

No, that was my sarcasm voice ... which I realize is difficult to tell apart from my normal one.

It was just kind of ... there.  I can't think of anything really positive to say about it, but the negatives I have to add are relatively minor and are picky.

Well, there were some witty one-liners.  I guess that's a positive comment.

A lot of the action felt forced.  Kirk rarely made an active decision to do anything, except for one major decision that changed the progression of events.  For that matter, that decision was kind of force-fed to him.

Most of the rest just felt like a bunch of people tumbling through a progression of events.  I never got the feeling of anyone agonizing over a problem or making a less-than-blindingly obvious choice.  The action was fairly well done, but a lot of it felt like pointless eye candy.

It wasn't a bad movie.  It's worth seeing.  It just wasn't a good movie, either.

I saw it yesterday. I thought that it was really engaging. It didn't resort to any cheap tricks to drive the plot, there were a couple of nods to the old series and the films, and it was exciting. And there were lens flares- lots and lots of lens flares...
