Meow! I also enjoy SF (and think that the Sci-Fi Channel's new name of "SyFy" accurately reflects its dumbing down).

Possibly of interest to some folks here: Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality -- what if Petunia married an Oxford biochemistry professor, and young Harry was a prodigy who grew up in a book-filled home learning science and reading SF... only to discover at age 11 that science's description of the universe was stunningly incomplete....

I don't know exactly what kind of nerd I am, I just know I am one.  I read SF ("sci-fi" is a dirty word!), fantasy, and some mysteries, love classical ballet, the way figure skating was before it became a jumping contest, and science.
