Come on in, pull up a chair!

Picture yourself spending some time with congenial friends, sharing your lives and pictures from your cell phones." They're curious about that cool game, song, movie, camping trip, art show, or other event that fascinated you. You talk about all kinds of stuff, poetry, styles, personal achievements, relationships, and bad days. You can share your inner child, and laugh together. They sympathetically listen to your feelings about serious topics like politics or climate change, even when they don't agree.

Personal validation comes from paying attention to one another, giving more than you get. Everyone respects you and themselves, despite our amazing range of personal tastes and interests. They'll tell you they don't agree with an idea or behavior without implying you're a bad person or somehow deficient. It's an "I'm OK, You're OK" kind of fellowship, where nobody tries to make himself look better by picking on somebody else.

Nobody here is into mind games. A discussion started with a loaded guilt-throwing question will be deleted.

This group is not intended to compete with other groups on topics they cover but to "fill in the cracks." Whenever a discussion dwells at length on a topic for which there's an existing group, we urge you to provide members a link to that group to continue along their tangent.

A comment is a shout-out, which will get lost in a few days, because the comment wall is just a random stack.

Please start a discussion to share stories, photos, and videos. Replies will pop up in your "latest activity" and a conversation can develop from the feelings and thoughts you contributed. Groups are built on discussions.

So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist…Continue

Many men join in the effort to reduce violence against women and children and other men. He speaks of the need to place responsibility on men instead of focusing on women to stop violence. He offers a breath of fresh air, as do so many of the men on…Continue

What are their options? The aquifer that provided a necessary element for successful crops for the past 100 years is predicted to dry up in 20 years. Four generations of farmers in one family may probably not be able to last for the fifth…Continue

Evangelicals Breaking Up with Jesus (Betty Bowers)

Has evangelical Christianity lost sight of Christ?  Seems to me that there are a whole lot of evangelical Christians who are presuming to represent Jesus by not representing him or misrepresenting him or – let's be honest here – talking out of their…Continue

The following showed up this morning in my YouTube daily feed, and I have to say, it just charmed the socks off of me.  This is what animation really can do in the hands of a creative and skilled team.  Really, it's what animation has done for darn…Continue

Happy birthday, Carl.

Wherefore art thou, Carl? We miss you. And we miss so many other "old timers". As many members A/N has, I don't understand why there's so little involvement. Thanks to the few of you who continue to participate.

Yes Joan, I sewed, knitted, cooked from scratch, canned/ froze things from the garden, & taught myself most of it. Things were repaired, not replaced until necessary, & looked after for as long as possible.
Our boys are pretty good with most things, & our daughter is good at landscaping & cooking, but does none of the others. I even gave her my sewing machine when she began having her kids, but doubt she ever used it. I have a different sewing machine now as I'd never ask for that one back. She tends to just go buy things, & most of the grandkids now don't seem to have much other than cell phones. Our eldest granddaughter is due for her first baby next month, but they are all religion soaked so I guess gawd is supposed to provide.

Patricia, I worry about the generation just coming up (my great-grandchildren). They will need the skills of my grandparents and have very little interest in learning how to survive and make-do with what one has. I know my children will do well, my grandchildren not so well, and my great-grandchildren know and want to know nothing more than what is on TV or the cell phones and have no interest at all in growing their own food, making their own clothes, and fixing and inventing their own tools.

We decided the best way to teach them is to give them simple chores geared for their age and ability, expect them to participate in preparing soils, planting seeds, managing crops, canning and freezing foods, and participating in making delicious, well-balanced meals. By observing the processes of each stage, perhaps they will recall the skills when they need them.

Small fires in sandy areas, but some dikes are in danger. A dike consists of stone, clay and water - it may collapse if it dries out too much, then big areas can flood.

I can't believe how careless people are with their cigarettes & campfires after all the publicity!

Comment by Ian Mason on July 15, 2018 at 2:21am

There have been grass fires in many places in Britain started by cigarettes, military 'live fire' exercises and even one by a gamekeeper burning the cover used by partridges. He wanted to be ready for the next big shooting party. Nothing serious in Denmark yet.
