Idaho Spud,

Napa is a tourist center.

Houses in the downtown area are worthless as domiciles - they are valuable as vacation rentals.

Napa also has

One evening I went to it and a number of bikers (6-7) sat outside Veterans Park on the street revving up their motorcycles for about a half hour during the concert before leaving.

Loud pipes on bikes don't save lives..

Helmits, reflective vests, lights, and defensive riding save lives.

A kid that lived up the street from me put unmuffled pipes on his bike. That changed the air to fuel mixture. He had to warm his bike up by revving it up before riding off, other wise it would stall.

The sounds that bother me here are loud motorcycles, bass frequencies from car audio systems, and dogs.  I would hate to have your ear problems Chris.  By the way, I lived in Napa for several years, about 50 years ago.

On Noise Free America and car alarm signaled by horns. Have you ever noticed that people who have car alarms signled with a horn walk twenty to thirty feet from their car before activating the alarm and consequential horn just as you are getting into or out of your car next to theirs.

The Jazz event wouldn't be so bothersome if there were a couple of week break between it and Bottle Rock.

There is an event called Porch Fest that originally started in New Jersey as I recall.  There's one here in Napa July 30. I really enjoy that.  Neighbors a block or two away have bands playing on their proch or front yard.  There are a bunch of amature, and semi-professional bands that play throughout town.  The hosts of the bands sometimes have BBQ's. It's a chance to get to know the neighbors and neighborhood musicians.

I have a rare ear problem where low frequency noise causes dizziness and nausea. I've had five ear surgeries to correct it. I don't vomit from low frequency noise like I used to.

An internet group called Noise Free America, I frequent attempts to work with cities and counties on noise ordinances. The group helped pass leaf blower bans in numerous cities.  Leaf blowers are the most problematic, followed by loud music, or open pipe motorcycles depending upon where one lives.

The barrage keeps growing and getting worse.

Currently Napa Valley Jazz Getaway is playing downtown. June 7-June 11.

This isn't as loud as the bands at Bottle Rock.

Again from a distance of 3/4 mile all I get is the low frequency BOOM BOOM noise reverberating off a cliffside hill beside my house with occational distorted speach like sounds.

I hope the dB level at Bottle Rock doesn't set the new noise standards for the area.  The Jazz event is in the city therefore controlled by the City sound Ordanance

There is a thing called Time Weighted Average for noise abuse and tollerance.  Bottle Rock and The Jazz Getaway being back to back are trying my patients.

It's about 73 degrees outside with a light breeze.  It would be nice to have the doors and windows open ewithout hearing distorted base and incomprehensable speach. At least this event is quiet enough that I hardly hear it with the doors and windows closed.

I used to live two blocks from a freeway. That noise was more tollerable because it didn't contain the low frequency harmonics, unless of course an open pipe motorcycle drove by - which is another problem easily solved.

People may have become complacent to noise abuse shortly after leaf blowers were introduced. When was that in the late 1980's to early 1990's?

Here in Napa California the tourist dollar trumps local citizens.

Hope you get some relief from one of those bureaucrats Chris.

Should I have to survive it?

The fair board signed a ten year contract with the  Bottle Rock music producers

It will only get louder and more troublesome for the local residence as it grows in popularity.

A Captian with the City Police Department tells me the city attorney looked into it and found City and County noise ordinances don't apply and can't be enforced on the festival because it's on a State Fairgrounds even though its in the middle of town.

Next step is to complain to my state senator and local assembly representative.

But you DID survive, eh Chris?!
