Politics, Economics, and Religion

Religion has so many connections to political and economic beliefs, there needs to be a place to identify linkages, problems, goals, options, action plans and evaluation criteria.

What is the purpose of life?

An eternal question, what is the purpose of life?, occupied philosophers’ thoughts throughout history. Stone pictographs reveal even primitive peoples reflected on this query. Each one has the capacity to define his or her personal thinking about politics, economics and religion.

Loren, that "debate" had me ROFL. Thanks.

It would seem as though, despite Donald Trumps absence from the last Republican debate, that he WAS debating ... or at least talking to himself ... with the assistance of Stephen Colbert.  The thing is, though, when Donnie talks out of both sides of his mouth at the same time, bad things just HAVE to happen!

Check it out!

|   I'm long past patience with the standoff.

Ruth, so are several others here.

And all of you have taken yourselves away from the task of solving the problem rationally.

Yeah, it feels good to express anger. One of the ways I do it, when I am not personally in danger, is to say "Damn! Damn! Damn!"

What were those childish but weaponized men doing that caused you all to feel personally endangered?

I was thinking gas grenades containing aerosolized sedative, such as fentanyl. I read the Russians did that with a terrorist mass hostage situation, with some deaths but I think most survived. With this much smaller situation, getting them antidote would be much faster than the Moscow mass hostage situation.

Yup, that's crazy, Bertold. I'm long past patience with the standoff. A Swat team with nonlethal overwhelming power is needed. They could deliver tear gas and flash bangs by drone if they are worried about being shot. And dart them long range.

To change the subject:

Pat, I agree. i wonder if any other group took armed control of American lands and buildings, vandalized, stole vehicles, declared their own laws, and used the incident to foment further such activity, if our government woukd be so patient. Still, so far it doesnt look like Waco - just wacko - so maybe the patience is a good thing.

You'll forgive me if I don't mourn the death of a white trash, anti-American, racist and religious bigot. The late comedian Moms Mabley made the observation that if you are to talk about the dead, you should only say something good.

LaVoy Finicum is dead. Good!

Spot of crazy for lunch anyone?

A Nevada Republican compared slain rancher LaVoy Finicum to both Jesus and Moses in an over-the-top Facebook post.

Assemblywoman Shelly Shelton, a first-term Republican, heaped praise on Finicum — who was shot to death by law enforcement officers as they executed arrest warrants for the armed militants who took over a wildlife refuge in Oregon.

“In any given generation there are men who are willing to stand for what they believe,” Shelton said in a Facebook post. “Most of the time they are demonized and the uninformed are made to believe they are criminals.”

“From Moses who killed an Egyptian for abusing his people, to Jesus who died on a cross as a condemned criminal, many of those who operate outside the box and promote love and justice over the current form of government are treated as outcasts and many times murdered,” she added.

I vary as it comes to catching Overtime, but that one should have been a don't-miss!  Thanks for posting that, Pat!

Bertold, if you saw the internet Overtime of Bill Maher's Real Time on January 22nd, he had a guest - Rep. Michael McCaul (R). McCaul is the head of the House Homeland Security Committee. He was actually very articulate  and well informed. When asked which of the Republicans would be best on homeland security, he couldn't name one. And, when asked if he thought Trump was qualified to be commander-in-chief, all he could do was hang his head and sigh. This, coming from one for their own.
