Loren,

The Dunning-Kruger Effect is a new one for me. So I found this article that explains the connection with Donald Trump...

I often tell my kids that,  "Knowing what you don't know is just as important what you do know".

Thomas, that one has been around A|N for almost as long as I've been here (eight years!), but it does bear repeating, because the Dunning-Kruger Effect on which a great deal of such ignorance is based is problematic at best and extremely dangerous at worst.

And it is well exemplified in the USA's current chief executive. [sigh!]

I dunno if this one been already posted here so .....

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

No idea is above scrutiny and no people are beneath dignity.
― Maajid Nawaz

I agree up to a point ... but there are INDIVIDUALS whose putative "dignity" is questionable at best (see my previous post).

Ain't that the truth!

It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.
-- Upton Sinclair

Gee whiz, anyone think of anybody who's like this?  Last name of Ham ... or Hovind ... or Robertson ... or Popoff ...

We are between climate catastrophe and wars of extinction, with the final administration provoking both at hyper-speed.

Excellent Penn Jillette quote.  So true.

Comment by Loren Miller on Monday

If every trace of any single religion were wiped out and nothing were passed on, it would never be created exactly that way again. There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all of science were wiped out, it would still be true and someone would find a way to figure it all out again.
― Penn Jillette

This is what happens when something is based on NOTHING, as opposed to something based in REALITY.

I'll tell you what you did with Atheists for about 1500 years. You outlawed them from the universities or any teaching careers, besmirched their reputations, banned or burned their books or their writings of any kind, drove them into exile, humiliated them, seized their properties, arrested them for blasphemy. You dehumanized them with beatings and exquisite torture, gouged out their eyes, slit their tongues, stretched, crushed, or broke their limbs, tore off their breasts if they were women, crushed their scrotums if they were men, imprisoned them, stabbed them, disemboweled them, hanged them, burnt them alive.

And you have nerve enough to complain to me that I laugh at you.
