Thomas, if you enjoy it, that's good!
Forgot attribution. The first one, Power-worship blurs political judgement..." is from George Orwell.
Loren (I can't help myself ) :-)
"Power-worship blurs political judgment because it leads, almost unavoidably, to the belief that present trends will continue. Whoever is winning at the moment will always seem to be invincible."
“The worship of power is an old religion.” ― George Santayana
"This selfsame worship of power demands also demands silence and absolute loyalty."
The Violent Side of Friday Night Lights
Of course, there is the canard about absolute power corrupting absolutely, although that doesn't mention worship of power.
I'm fairly certain that I would have been the same as Asimov, if I hadn't been religiously indoctrinated as a child.
I have never, in all my life, not for one moment, been tempted toward religion of any kind. The fact is that I feel no spiritual void. I have my philosophy of life, which does not include any aspect of the supernatural and which I find totally satisfying. I am, in short, a rationalist and believe only that which reason tells me is so.― Isaac AsimovNow there's a quality I wish could have come naturally to far more of us!
"The doctor asked me if anyone in my family suffered from mental illness. I replied, not at all. They seemed to enjoy it"
I know I enjoy it .... ;)
Worship of power .....you put the words into what I thought it was. It seems worship of power can be disguised as anything...corrupted or not. If that is true, then religion is not what it cracked up to be.
The only interesting thing about religion is how many people it's slaughtered. Communism and Nazism are religions as well, make no mistake about it.― Lemmy KilmisterI think at some point someone needs to talk about the worship of POWER ... which is what Hitler and Stalin and Mao and Pol Pot were about in the final analysis.
I've seen that "no one is gay" crap before, usually tied to "being gay is a choice." To which I and a LOT of others want to know: when did that dip CHOOSE to be STRAIGHT???
