Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for.   (W.R.)

There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you.   (W.R.)

This would be a great time in the world for some man to come along that knew something.  (W.R.)

Will Rogers put out a lot of good quotes.  I like that one Daniel.  Another is"

Papers say: "Congress is deadlocked and can't act." I think that is the greatest blessing that could befall this country.

Daniel, I like to think such a relationship can exist, and perhaps it does in a very few instances.

I've never seen it, and I certainly fall short of being that kind of a friend, but I keep looking for it and trying to better myself towards that goal.

Loren, another quotation on politics -

"A fool and his money are soon elected" - Will Rogers

That Frederick Douglass quotation can stand on it's own with either the first sentence, or the last.  Really meaningful and necessary in this and all other eras.

Spud, that's a beautiful quotation.  I wonder if anyone is ever in a relationship where they don't have to measure words or weigh thoughts?  Maybe it says more about the relationship than the person?

I found the following a couple years ago and posted it on a blog, but it's worth repeating. Once again, I think it is very applicable to the current time:

Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.
-- Frederick Douglass

Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person; having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but to pour them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then, with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away.

Dinah Maria (Mulock) Craik (often attributed to George Eliot)

Oh, gad!  In going through my Babylon 5 quotes, I ran onto one which is too apropos not to post!

Centauri Attache Vir Cotto: I thought the purpose of filing these reports was to provide accurate intelligence.
Centauri Ambassador Londo Mollari: Vir, intelligence has nothing to do with politics.

-- Babylon 5, "Point of No Return"

Loren - you reminded me of a favorite from Aleister Crowley: The universe is a practical joke on the part of the general at the expense of the particular.
